To want the PS4 in the playroom

It’s currently in the living room. Whenever DS has friends over they now congregate in the living room to play on it.

DH thinks it belongs in the living room as he needs it to watch football.

i say If he needs to watch football on it, he should go to the playroom.

both rooms are nicely decorated and have a sofa to sit on btw.

yabu: leave the PS4 where it is
yanbu: into the playroom for the PS4

How old are the dc? We have the Xbox in the living room so we can keep an eye on what they’re doing (Ds aged 9). I wouldn’t want him playing in a room on his own. I just go on my phone or whatever when he’s playing.

Stylishkidintheriot · 26/04/2022 12:22

DS is 6!

however before all the Pearl clutchers panic, the playroom is connected to the lounge by pocket doors, so we have them open when he is playing in there and we can see the kids and the screen

Can't DS take the PS4 into the playroom when he has friends over?

Personally I don't like the idea of handing the family console over to the kids so would try to resist that, but I guess it depends how much you as adults use the PS4.

How much does DH watch football on it? Is that regular enough to be in itself antisocial and better done in the other room?

Stylishkidintheriot · 26/04/2022 12:44

@aSofaNearYou shamefully I hadn’t thought of that. If I’m honest I have no idea how to set the bloody thing up !

I don’t mind dh watching football on the PS4 in the living room, but I just hate the living room being used for playing games on it.

DH maybe watches football on it once or twice a month. DS probably plays on it a couple of times a week.

Unplug from socket, unplug hdmi from telly. Do in reverse in another room.

You 'hate' your ds playing a game in the living room a couple of times a week? Why?

Stylishkidintheriot · 26/04/2022 12:53

he and his wee pals take over the sofas! They are loud when playing it and you have to dodge the tv screen and avoid walking in front of it. It’s just a pain in the arse.

You could buy a second ps4 for ~£100 or less. There may also be other smart TV solutions that allow your DH to watch football on whatever app it is that cost less e.g. Chromecast or firestick.

I think with that amount of use I would just move the PS4. It isn't that much of a faff!

NothingIsWrong · 26/04/2022 13:27

Why does he need the PS4 to watch football? Could you get an HD firestick or something for the TV instead?

Oh blimey, I was assuming you meant you had a teenager and he and his mates were taking over the living room in the evenings.

If DS is only 6, presumably when he has friends at your house it's during the day? So why would that interfere with you and DH watching telly? I don't understand why it's a problem for the kids to be playing PS4 in the living room - it's not like you have to let them have their drinks and snacks in there while they're playing.

If I was your DH I don't think I'd really fancy being sent off to a play room to watch football if the only real reason for that was that you don't like people's children being in your living room. If there was a more compelling argument for it, that would be different, but this feels like a minor niggle to me, not a good reason for banishing DH to the kids' playroom.

As others have said, there are probably other solutions for watching football on the main telly, like a FireStick or whatever, or plugging in a tablet with an HDMI cable. I have a feeling I watched last year's Copa America final like that.

aSofaNearYou · 26/04/2022 14:04

I use the PS4 to watch All4 and ITVHub as they aren't compatible with my TV. Not sure what he's watching football on but I wouldn't buy another device just to avoid using the PS4 for this!

I have no bloody idea why football needs to be watched on the PS4. All I know is that it apparently does.

i have so little interest in the PS4 that I wouldn’t know how to switch it on.

Could you get another device that enables your dh to watch the football in rhe lounge like a firestick and then the PS4 can go back in the playroom?

Stylishkidintheriot · 26/04/2022 18:20

A wee update. While I was at work today, DH moved the PS4 into the playroom. Don’t know if he’s been secretly following me on MN and saw this thread lol

If I had a playroom and a living room there would be no tv at all in the living room. Remodel the living room to be a grownup space for non-screen-based activities and upgrade the screen in the playroom so that it becomes the best place ever for watching the footy.

CareBearsCare · 26/04/2022 18:27

Can't he watch the football on a TV stick ?

toomuchlaundry · 26/04/2022 18:28

What games are they playing?

Stylishkidintheriot · 26/04/2022 18:41

@BuanoKubiamVej I would if it was up to me... but DH loves watching films and telly.

@toomuchlaundry fifa, hotwheels and rocket league (which is basically football with cars). It’s not connected to the internet to play the games.

I moved ds’ ps4 to his bedroom. Drove me bonkers in the living room. Then dh moved it to our bedroom so I bought Ds a tv for his birthday to get rid of the ps4. It’s the shrieking that goes with it they drives me bonkers.
