My baby accidentally drank tea

I'm quite an anxious mum in general so please be as kind as possible, as I do think I'm probably worrying for nothing here.

My little one (who recently turned 1yo) picked up a lukewarm cup of tea from where I'd stupidly left it on the living room floor. I had nipped to the kitchen for something and came back to her drinking it (well mostly pouring it all down herself 🙈). I can't remember how much was in it.

Is tea / caffeine harmful to babies??

She'll be fine, don't worry.

MarinoRoyale · 24/04/2022 11:29

Nope, not in the slightest in that quantity !

ComDummings · 24/04/2022 11:29

No, unless they were drinking pints a day. Your baby will be fine! My children enjoyed a milky tea and a biscuit at that age a couple of times a week. Don’t worry whatsoever.

CuriousCatfish · 24/04/2022 11:29

She will be fine. Not worth a second thought.

TigerLilyTail · 24/04/2022 11:29

It's absolutely fine. In some cultures, they actually give tea to babies in bottles.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 24/04/2022 11:29

Some people give tea to their children six months plus (in moderation). Your child will be fine.

If you're worried - have a Google and see how common it is!

Bebabelouba · 24/04/2022 11:30

Your baby will be fine 💐

VerifiedBot2351 · 24/04/2022 11:30

She’ll be fine. When ds was two he helped himself to some Baileys. Hope that makes you feel better!

Mrsjayy · 24/04/2022 11:30

It's tea honestly it's fine don't worry.

TheKeatingFive · 24/04/2022 11:31

It's fine OP. Don't give it another thought

MadamOracle · 24/04/2022 11:31

Not the slightest bit harmful. Don’t worry.

Pyri · 24/04/2022 11:31

Give her a biscuit to go with it and enjoy your own brew too

SageCardy · 24/04/2022 11:32

A one off is fine, although she may now have a taste for it 😀

notarevealingname · 24/04/2022 11:32

My Ds also 1 loves to drink tea! So did my oldest when she was little. It will be absolutley fine!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 24/04/2022 11:33

She’ll be fine, but keep the lid on your spirits 😉

SpangledShambles · 24/04/2022 11:34

Bless you. I used to get very anxious when mine were babies too. A bit of tea is 100% fine.

I was just watching an old clip of Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman. When asked how the baby was, Joanne replied ‘he ate a cigarette!’ So I think you’re ok 😂

Whooshaagh · 24/04/2022 11:34

My mil used to love giving my 1year old milky tea. It was the only time he got any. Once a week. In his cup. I ignored it.
Your baby will be fine.

2023wish · 24/04/2022 11:35

she’ll be fine. my 1 year old grabbed my can of coke and took a swig the other day too 😂

WineIsMyCarb · 24/04/2022 11:35

And you didn't even offer her a biscuit? Light-hearted as you've said you're quite an anxious mum so I say that to make you feel better. my children have all drunk a cup of tea most mornings since the age of 1. Weak, milky, half a sugar... Usually a custard cream or two. They're 4 and 6 now and very healthy (although the biscuit tin is always empty!)

bibblepibble · 24/04/2022 11:35

She will be fine and I hope it is Yorkshire Tea.

ancientgran · 24/04/2022 11:35

One of mine was always being sick, when I stopped breastfeeding HV suggested giving her milky tea instead of just milk, amazingly it worked and she won't touch tea as an adult.

Don't worry your baby will be fine, a few sips of tea won't do any harm. Being a mum is scary sometimes.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 24/04/2022 11:36

Your biggest problem will be if she liked it. You'll never have a peaceful cup of tea without grabby hands again.

Name1232 · 24/04/2022 11:37

Caffeine is given to very premature babies as a medication, ours was having it at 2lb4. The small amount in a few sips of tea at a year old isn't going to be harmful, remember Caffeine is also in chocolate, and in coca cola which some people give to small children. Tea is also given to young children sometimes.

jytdtysrht · 24/04/2022 11:37

Tiny quantity, no harm whatsoever. Don’t worry. The kind of babies that are seriously damaged by tea as those who drink loads and loads of it as their bottle very frequently.

Soultrader · 24/04/2022 11:37

Not in the last bit harmful. She will be fine.
