Twisted bloody ankle!!!

Managed to twist my ankle- I was walking down the street and it suddenly just gave way and rolled underneath me. It gave the loudest crack and it sounded awful!

thankfully it’s ok and I’m confident I haven’t done any serious damage- I’ve had some nasty ankle injuries in the past aswell as typical sprains and torn ligaments damage, so I know how painful it is when damaged and it’s not that bad, but it’s still sore. No swelling or bruising thankfully

i have a long day at work tomorrow and will be up on my feet all day, and whilst it’s not nearly as painful as when I injured it before, it’s still quite sore and uncomfortable to walk on.

I’ve been following the RICE method all night and it’s helped a bit. But does anyone have any other advice to take the pain away? It’s not an unbearable pain- it’s like a dull uncomfortable feeling but unfortunately being at work and walking about all night will make it feel more painful!

I’ve also a long week of sports training ahead of me😥

any tips or advice would be very much appreciated x

I’m a sprained ankle veteran and have the physio bills to prove it!
ideally you should continue testing it, but you know that. Have you got any close fitting boots you could wear to support it? Or a neoprene ankle support? And lots of painkillers - that’s all I’ve got I’m afraid. Ankles can be very difficult. It took blooming ages to heal last time. Months.

Good luck.

Definitely an ankle brace or support bandage with supportive shoes.

Are you sure you haven’t done any ligament damage or cracked a bone as you say you heard a loud crack? I’d personally get it checked out at A&E and at least have an X-ray to make sure.

Simple answer is don't go to work. I have had a couple of bad ankle sprains (including with the loud crack like you described - it's horrible!) When I've strictly elevated the leg for the first few days, the overall recovery has been short (back to sport within a month)
The time I sat at a desk on day two my recovery took three months, due to the resultant swelling and bruising which was far more uncomfortable to deal with than the original sprain.

If you can't elevate your foot above hip height then I really do think you need to take a couple of days off sick. I know it might seem like overkill but if you don't and it's a bad sprain you're likely to find you can't weight bear at all in a few days.
