Apparently Fek isn't as bad as the F word- DS informs me it expresses annoyance. Google tells me it doesn't have the same sexual connotations.

What do you think?

If you heard it do you just think it's the F word in an Irish accent?

YABU- it's a different word and not as bad

YANBU- it's the F word

You'd tell someone to feck/fuck off but you wouldn't tell someone to go feck themselves.

Oh you would. “Feck off with yourself” is the phrase you require.

😂

The phrase you require... really tickled me!

😂😂 does "feck off with yourself" really imply the same as "go fuck yourself"
There would be a fair few older Irish people using that phrase but not meaning to do that😂

theDudesmummy · 24/04/2022 13:07

I had only ever really heard it in the context of Father Ted, until I came to live in Ireland. I had also thought it was pretty much the same level as fuck, in terms of acceptability in different social situations, and was initially very surprised to hear people using it all over, in daily speech, and even on the TV!

There is a lot to love about Irish idioms, I have found.

You haven’t met my mother then 🙃

But yes I agree it’s not really the same level of aggression 😂

Mrs Doyle makes it quite clear that "the bad F word" is different to, and worse than, Feck.

Probably closer in meaning to 'hadaway and shite'.

I'm not getting involved in this conversation.

Oh fek!
Notjustanymum · 25/04/2022 08:09

I always thought of it in the same vein as “Oh Sugar” and think it’s quite funny, like the GGM “kiss my chuddies”

Also, when Ted and Dougal are writing 'my lovely horse' Ted tells Dougal to play the fucking note. He says fucking a few times and it is bleeped out.
