Sorry as I feel I should know this.

We are planning a camping holiday in July. We will arrive in Amsterdam and TRAVEL though France, Germany, Switzerland and Italy by car.

I have checked entry requirements bit small unsure. DH thinks once we are in Holland we don’t need to go through border controls in each country so only need to look at entry requirements for Holland. Is he right? We are all vaxxed anyway.

oncw you’re in Holland you’re in a shengen area so I think don’t need to worry generally about border controls.
I’d check about Switzerland though- don’t think that’s a shengen area

Thank you!

Last time I drove through Switzerland, I had to pay an extortionate amount for a pass to use the motorway. It lasted a year, but I only used it for one day! I'm not sure if this is still the case.

Vignettes are still the case. I don’t know if I would call it “extortionate” but you do have to buy them to use the motorways.

I drove in Switzerland last week (but hired a Swiss car so was covered). The vignette is about 40 Euros, I think.

ClafoutisSurprise · 24/04/2022 16:35

Yes, bear in mind the vignettes - good value for an extended period, but a bit painful for a few days! 40 chf. I had to buy one for a period of less than 48 hours - if you’re driving you just have to think of it as a cost of entry like a visa.

OP we are doing a trip through france-Switzerland-Italy and are planning on having to follow entry requirements for all three countries, mostly because Switzerland isn't Schengen as pp have said. That will be the only place you will expect to see see border controls. However if you are all vaxxed it shouldn't be an issue, just fill out Passenger Locater Forms though double check requirements for children in Italy. Most countries (definitely Italy) had a "if you've been in UK in past 14 days" clause to their covid restrictions. When they were still requiring tests on entry I was looking on how to do it in France as we were there for longer than 48 hours, which was the maximum time allowed even though french-italian travel didn't require a test. Thankfully that requirement has been lifted so it should just be a simple drive through!

Switzerland is certainly different to EU, we were lucky last visit passed unmanned customs on a minor road twice no vignette.
