To worry what I’m putting in DS’s lunchbox?

He’s 3 and a half and starting at pre school next week.
Up until now he’s been at a private day nursery so meals have been provided.

My problem is that he doesn’t like any ‘traditional’ packed lunch foods. So he doesn’t eat sandwiches, doesn’t like cheese, won’t eat yogurt and so on.

Things he will eat:
Sausage roll, mini chicken satays, a plain wrap or plain bread with nothing on it.
Fruit like raisins, mango, satsuma, apple and occasionally grapes.
He will eat salad stuff like cucumber, cherry tomatoes and pepper.
He likes those mini soreen loaves and obviously cake and chocolate but I can’t give him that really.
Not sure if we can put crisps in , but was thinking mini cheddars or Pom bears.

And a carton of juice?

Any more help and ideas would be great.

Random stuff my fussier dc has eaten in lunchboxes: vegan hot dogs, served cold; boiled eggs; cold pasta; pieces of smoked mackerel; mini croissants; mini savoury muffins; corn bread; savoury flapjacks. Popcorn is also great. Breadsticks/veg sticks with hummus. Cold pizza.

pls don’t put chicken satay in unless you have somehow found a peanut free version. Would he eat other chicken?

No reason not to put the chicken satay in unless this has been requested by the school. Peanuts are a perfectly OK choice .

My DD often has a bento box - sometimes she has a vegetarian sausage roll or mini sausages in it. Then cut up veg and fruit. Then the smallest section I put in a few crisps or mini cookies. She has a juice carton with it. She has a few other things that your DS won't eat but equally she won't eat pepper or tomato or the soreen loaves so I wouldn't worry lots of little DC are a bit fussy.

I thought most schools had a nut ban? My DD's school does and her nursery did too.

Sounds alright to me OP - wrap (carb) chicken (protein) and some fruit and veg.

Just remember it’s only one meal out of his day and when you can supervise and provide hot food etc. you can balance things out if needed.

Only if they have a pupil with a nut allergy.

Salad stuff, chicken satay and A plain wrap just sounds like a deconstructed sandwich.
Sausage roll is fine but probably not every day.
chopped fruit is fine.
Mini cheddars were fine when my DD was in nursery but check if your setting has a policy.
If you can why don’t you look into getting a Bento Box to set out all the different bits he likes, I used a YumBox for my DD but plenty of other brands are available. They aren’t the cheapest but the YumBox lasted years and is great for a picky type lunch. It also means lunch is just ready for then without messing about opening packets. Also makes shopping a little cheaper as you can yet for example, a full soreen loaf instead of individual bars or a sharing bag of cheddars then put a portion in the box ect.

You have a fair little bit to pick from there and lots of it is healthy and can be fun for him to eat. A nice bread roll, a little fruit salad, some cucumber sticks, a soreen loaf.... it might be worth seeing (if you've not already) if he will eat nurtigrain bars or cereal bars of any sort. Those are usually allowed in a lunchbox.

My DS has enforced school dinners which winds me up no end as he's barely eaten at school for a year, he's so terrified of trying unfamiliar foods. They won't let a packed lunch come in because they're a "healthy school" but I reckon it would be healthier for him if they let me send him with some buttered bread and cubes of cheese than letting him go hungry all day long.
