To hate the trend of high neck/chest tops?

MooseBreath · 23/04/2022 12:59

I am looking to buy some new tops, as my old clothes are starting to look a bit tatty and I constantly look like a slob. I am quite busty (34G) and am short at only 5'2. I am finding it really difficult to find decent clothing to suit my body!

I know I look better in V necks and scoop necks because high necked tops make me look enormous. I also need a fitted waist because I actually have a waist hidden under the excess fabric in loose tops. I also prefer clothes to be made to last and am not keen on fast fashion.

Budget is fairly tight. I have checked my local supermarkets and department stores, but no luck so far. I scrounged some charity shops last week, but it all seems to be frumpy or Primark quality with a weirdly high pricetag.

Any ideas or sympathy?

I hate them too. I’m not particularly big busted (32D) but I look better in low or scooped necks. I wear a lot of tunic type tops.

shirts and shirt dresses are all over the place at the moment and are good for me - the buttons and collar break up the expanse a bit. And the dresses often have loops for a belt.

As a 36G YANBU! I look dreadful in anything high necked.

hellcatspanglelalala · 23/04/2022 15:15

I have exactly the same issue...

I bought this the other day and didn't expect much, but its brilliant! I am a 14 and have 36DD boobs. This top accommodates the boobs, flares out slightly over the hips and ISN'T SEE THROUGH!

What about some wrap tops? You can find them on vinted/depop etc

I'm tall and skinny with small boobs but I also hate high-necked tops. They make me feel like I'm being strangled. I have to cut the necklines to make them lower.

Weirdly, I recently found out that my grandma (who died when I was a baby) was exactly the same.

H&M have some nice v-neck tops but they only last a short time and are hugely unethical i'm sure.

TheOGCCL · 23/04/2022 15:56

I've got big boobs but also a long neck so v necks show an awful lot of chest. I do agree they do reduce the size of your chest but they don't look that modern imo.

There are still plenty around

TK Maxx does some great stuff if you are prepared to spend a bit of time furtling through all those racks. Ebay, is useful, Secret Sales or Brand Alley have lots of designer clothes at reasonable prices

The trouble with wrap tops if you're short is, depending on the style, how long your back is and where your boobs sit on your torso, you can end up with the cross over sitting at, or below, the level of your bra chest strap and full side boob on show. It doesn't always happen, but it happens often enough that I only consider buying wrap tops if I can try them on before buying.

Crikeyalmighty · 23/04/2022 16:31

Exactly same problem here OP hence I buy tons of clothes from Bravissimo

woodhill · 23/04/2022 16:33

Some of the notch necks and mandarin collars with a open neck don't always work on me either

I find Amazon good for clothes because you put in exactly what you want and then click on the closest thing, then from there it brings up suggestions and usually you can be shown the thing you wanted in a few variations and colours.

Based on what you've said I would start here and click on the most relevant things at the bottom, keep a few tabs and look around a bit www.amazon.co.uk/Breampot-Summer-T-Shirts-Sleeve-XX-Large/dp/B09MD1736K/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=2ENWKGVL2OZWR&keywords=v%2Bneck%2Bfitted&qid=1650731616&sprefix=v%2Bneck%2Bfitted%2Caps%2C86&sr=8-1-spons&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyVFlHNkNIVzZUSkdFJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNzkxNTEyMTIwWTRLNURPWllONyZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMTIzNDI5M1BDOEQyTzhRWjVXVSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU&th=1&psc=1

I get loads from here. Once you've bought things a few times too, and any duds, you start being able to gauge what will be good and what will be bad quality and what type of fit they are and things.

I've had much success from Amazon.

You've described me to a tee! Though I'm surprised at the number of posters on this thread who've said the same thing and then gone on to suggest tops that aren't fitted at the waist...

Not bought much recently, but this one ticked all the right boxes:
