To think £80 is too much for a trip to a farm?

keeponpushinglove · 22/04/2022 17:49

£80. For the farm up the road, about 15 mins drive from the school

£80! I'm sat here on a bed thinking about it.

'Snacks included but please bring packed lunch'

DS attends a special school so I suppose there will be hidden extra costs but even so. £80?!

If you all have different numbers I'd suggest it's populated with the house number or some sort of order number to do with how many letters sent out.

Which might suggest one lucky kid gets it for £1

Hallyup89 · 22/04/2022 19:00

Seems like something has gone wrong somewhere. Is the letter specific to your child/has their name or address on it? If so, it sounds like someone has pressed the wrong button.

keeponpushinglove · 22/04/2022 18:13

Someone else from the class GC has just said hers says £50... what on earth? 3 different typos?

I wonder if its based on how many carers/support assistants each child needs?

Great needs the more expensive? Eg if yours needs 2 for the day, £50 if only needs 2 at points and £30 if not 1:1 or just partially or similar?

Staffy1 · 22/04/2022 19:21

I wouldn’t have thought it is based on staff or carers needed. They will be using people who work at the school and are already paid. Pretty sure their entry fee costs would also be at least partly funded by the usual parent term donations to the school and if not wouldn’t come to £80 unless there were about 20 staff for one child - not likely.

AuntieDolly · 22/04/2022 19:28

Is there an online payment system you can login to to check it there?

PinkBackpack · 22/04/2022 19:35

waaay too much. and the differing amounts is odd.

CoralDaffodil · 22/04/2022 19:39

£80 is ridiculous for the type of trip you describe. I would definitely query it with the school. Especially as people seem to be being charged different prices!

Mummumtum · 22/04/2022 19:41

That can’t be right! Have you asked the school?

thebeespyjamas · 22/04/2022 19:42

keeponpushinglove · 22/04/2022 17:52

I wish they would explain why th

Ask them.

2reefsin30knots · 22/04/2022 19:44

That's surely going to be an error.

I've just taken my special needs class for a half day at the farm, we didn't charge anything. It cost us £200 plus the fuel for the school minibus. Staff don't cost extra, they are being paid for the day anyway.

Bootothegoose · 22/04/2022 19:44

£80?! What for a sheep to take home?!

That is ridiculous! HOW are they justifying this? I would ask for a breakdown of costs and say how outrageous it is. Other parents will do the same I guarantee it.

Sandra2010 · 22/04/2022 19:48

There's been an error. Got to be. Phone on Monday, although I suspect you'll be in a very long queue to get the phone answered!

Dashel · 22/04/2022 20:23

Is a member of staff annoyed and leaving or someone at the school taken their teenager in for work experience?

SparkyBlue · 22/04/2022 20:26

That has to be an error. No way could it cost that much. And I'm in Ireland where everything school related seems to cost ten billion times more that it does in the UK and it still sounds off the scale mental to me

TeoLeftSocksWithHoles · 22/04/2022 20:31

To be fair I think you each get a lamb to take home, as much milk as you drink (direct from Daisy) and one old tractor tyre.

MamaFoxToBe · 25/04/2022 15:45

Any update? What did the school say?

Poppyseed14 · 25/04/2022 15:50

I'm invested now too! Please tell us OP!

SVRT19674 · 25/04/2022 15:54

My daughter went on a trip to the farm, 30 mins from school, lunch included, they also baked some biscuits and it came to 34.50 euros for kids not associated to parent´s association and 24.50 for those who were. They were there from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm. Yes, I´m in Madrid but nearly three times the price is a rip-off.

saraclara · 25/04/2022 16:11

@keeponpushinglove do let us know what it was all about. I was a teacher in a special school and this thread is messing with my head!

lanthanum · 25/04/2022 16:19

Must be a mailmerge error - there's no way they could charge different amounts for different children.

JudgeJ · 25/04/2022 16:23

Dancer47 · 22/04/2022 18:15

Why not ring them and ask them?

You're like me, I always go for the easiest solution instead of a lot of random opinions.

Aimee1987 · 25/04/2022 16:26

I'm following to find out why the letters all have different prices

bloodywhitecat · 25/04/2022 16:28

Dancer47 · 22/04/2022 18:15

Why not ring them and ask them?

May be because the OP was musing the question at 5.50pm on a Friday night, I can't imagine there would be much chance of the phone being answered by the school at that time of night?

BrieAndChilli · 25/04/2022 16:30

i could see the issue being if some chidlren need a 1-1 but then I would have thought they would be needed anyway during a normal school day so the cost wouldnt be any extra?
does seem a bit fishy if its not a mail merge error

JeffThePilot · 25/04/2022 17:12

I used to work in a school for children with additional needs, we’d go out in the minibus all the time to farms, cafes etc. Never any charge.
