spots on my bum

embarrassedbum · 22/04/2022 05:02

nc as very embarrassing and posted for traffic

sorry if this is TMI but I’m just so embarrassed. I’ve had these painful spots on my bum since I was a teenager and I think they are getting worse now. I also get some on the side of my labia - between the fold inside of my thigh and where my labia starts.

theyre usually big and painful, feel like they are under the skin and start off hard and become softer and able to pop after a few days. They’re usually quite big - think 50p coin size and usually all towards the middle of my bum.
the ones near my labia are also hard under the surface and become poppable after a few days. I think they are both cysts?

Some of the ones on my buttocks get a crackly “coat” on them after a few days (like a clear scab) that can be peeled.

Its becoming so painful when I sit down on a hard chair and I’ve always had to just hide myself in relationships.

If anyone has been through anything similar please do advise and if you are a medical professional please do as well.
I know I can go and see my GP but honestly I am mortified.

Also, to add, my bum is covered in these horrible scars and I’m so upset that I’ll never look normal again.

the spots never end when one goes away another comes and my scarring is getting worse by the day

Honestly, you need to see the GP. I know it might feel embarrassing, but they will know what it is straight away and give you meds to help alleviate the symptoms. Have you tried Googling?

ZealAndArdour · 22/04/2022 05:35

Using a chlorhexidine body wash such as Hibiscrub can really help with this. Be very careful not to use it inside the labia, but carefully in the groin crease and in between the buttocks, used regularly for a few months in the shower and they’re almost certain to clear up.

Do discuss with your Gp though, they may want to send a swab and check for some other conditions, equally, they may not do anything at all if they’re only ever small boils and not causing you to be systemically unwell with fever, etc.

FabFitFifties · 22/04/2022 05:37

Please go to your GP. Imagine a life free of this - no discomfort, no embarrassment, no worry that your skin will get worse and worse re scarring. I imagine you need antibiotics. You are neglecting yourself for the sake of showing a doctor your bottom. Would you tell a loved one to just put up with it? Just do it.

jealousgirl · 22/04/2022 05:38

It sounds like boils you should go gp for coo or erect treatment. There are over counter treatments you can get at chemist for spots but it would be better to be seen first.

jacks11 · 22/04/2022 07:48

Op I am a dr- this could be a number of conditions- I wonder if it could be a condition called hidradinitis supprativa, though I obviously cannot be sure as I have not examined you. If it is, there are treatments available and lifestyle changes that can help ( stop smoking if you are a smoker, weight loss if overweight, for example), but also some blood tests and other investigations that they want to do. Please see your gp- there is honestly nothing to be embarrassed about .

don't you have a GP you could speak to?

gamerchick · 22/04/2022 08:40

You need to find out what it is OP. You need to see the GP.

As an aside, Epson salts in a bath for you and half a packet in the washing machine on a hot wash will sterilise the machine in case it's staphylococcus.

OP mentioned the GP in her first post

cigarettesNalcohol · 22/04/2022 08:52

You need a referral to a dermatologist, ask you GP and push for this. Explain how it is affecting your every day life. Intimately, pain wise, sitting etc. There is medication out there that can solve this, you don't have to suffer in silence. It's treatable with the right medication.

For severe facial acne, isotretinoin/roaccutane works marvellously well at reducing big cystic spots like the ones you are describing. It might be that a GP/dermatologist can recommend this or something similar for your bum.

I had to document my acne by taking pictures of the worse flare ups to show GP so they would believe me and refer me. My acne on my face has cleared and my god, my self esteem has improved SO MUCH!

Go and see your GP. Best of luck.

It wouldn't hurt to try a high dose vitamin d supplement, as well as other advice. Also to make sure diet has enough protein. Both helpful for functioning immune system. I have had a similar problem in a different area and believe this has helped me.

MrOllivander · 22/04/2022 09:31

Try this. It shifted my back spots where everything else failed
Quite scratchy so lather on your hands or a flannel and let it sit on your skin for a minute
Possibly HS, I have it too and the coating you describe sounds familiar

@MrOllivander unfortunately MN still haven't fixed the picture size issue so your picture is approximately the size of my thumbnail when I click on it and I can't read the text - what is the product called?

MoiraQueen · 22/04/2022 09:59

Revitale Salicylic Acid Scrub Soap, Pore Exfoliating, Softening Skin, Anti-Blemish

Is the product on the Amazon screenshot above.

I had something similar but not as evil sounding as yours. Since I hit puberty at around 13. Was also super embarrassed, always walked out of a room backwards when I was naked Blush and put off going to see someone. I eventually plucked up the courage (and the coins) and booked in with a private dermatologist
Was £200 for a consultation

Problem is now solved. It was worth every penny

embarrassedbum · 22/04/2022 21:26

Sorry for the late response.

I’ve called the GP and booked an appointment😫 but forgot to ask for a female gp if possible. Oh well.

god knows how I’m gonna describe the issue when I walk through the door but it really is making my life hell.

even sitting down today has been so difficult

@jacks11 I think you may be right. However looking at the photos online, it could get a lot worse so I will definitely be checking it out. I do need to lose some weight, but not mordbidly obese or anything. My appointment is in 2 weeks, could you recommend anything OTC?

embarrassedbum · 22/04/2022 21:29

Will also order the soap thanks!

Countdownis35 · 22/04/2022 21:32

2 weeks is a long wait OP. You should of said it was urgent I think it is if you can't even sit down comfortably.

I hope you get sorted! It can't be any worse than a smear. I went to the GP for something similar mine is with shaving though!

Xiaoxiong · 22/04/2022 21:33

@MoiraQueen thanks! I'll look out for this product as I get spots on my shoulders. I am on a laptop and zooming in on a tiny picture just makes it incredibly pixelated and illegible, as the main pic and the thumbnail are the same size since the replatforming. Hopefully they fix this glitch soon.

embarrassedbum · 22/04/2022 21:36

@Countdownis35 will be calling them first thing in the morning to get something sooner but to be honest have been dealing with this for years 😢

OP posts:
Countdownis35 · 22/04/2022 21:39

Yes I read. It sounds terrible and I know how uncomfortable a cycst can be in the groin I've had it where it effects my walking before.

Honestly it has been incredible for mine. I bought it and figured if it didn't work then I had a bar of soap Grin
I won't be without it now, and using it only on my back it's lasted 4 months

jacks11 · 22/04/2022 23:37

@embarrassedbum
if no open/discharging wound, washing with hibiscrub can help. You may need oral antibiotics in acute flares, some people can control things with topical acne creams but others sometimes need low dose antibiotics (lymecycline or doxycycline, for example)- not just for antimicrobial properties but do have some anti-inflammatory properties too.

I did shout at a doctor in hospital once Blush in my defence I had been fasting for surgery
He told me to lose weight and quit smoking and I would be fine. I had lost 3 stone and quit smoking and then had the worst abscess ever and needed my first operation
Mine are weird now, they're just blood filled and never get any gunk in them
