Oh well, tightened finances mean I need to sell them. Relationship broke up 4 years ago so no reason not to sell them. I have the paperwork for the engagement ring.

if anyone has any recommendations for getting best price, I’d be grateful.

thanks

You could try taking them to auction, but tbh you’re unlikely to get much for them as second hand jewellery really isn’t worth much.

I’d try your luck on eBay, if you have paperwork you may get lucky. Jewellers will take a huge cut if they sell for you or will offer you scrap prices, gold is quite high at the moment but it’s unlikely to be what you think it’s worth.

I'd get a value at a cash for gold place then put them on ebay for that much and see what happens.

You will be very lucky to get anything like the 'original value', I tried to sell my engagement ring after my marriage broke up .. ended up putting it in a charity auction where it raised around £15!

EBay is your best bet, imo.

But you have to be realistic. If you have a valuation saying it's worth £1500 you're not going to get that, or anywhere near, unless it's something really unusual or a perfect Diamond.

I'd say you're looking at half the valuation, or less.

Thanks everyone. I know I won’t get anything like the price paid but I didn’t buy them so that doesn’t bother me. I think I’ll get 3 separate quotes and then make a decision.

You could always try taking them to a jewellers who sells new and second hand jewellery and try to do a trade in or part exchange. You might get a better deal. I agree second hand jewellery doesnt attract hard cash for the true value.

If you find a proper jeweller (one that makes jewellery as opposed to just selling it) they might offer you a price that’s a bit better than scrap value.

Make sure you get it weighed and know the scrap value as you don’t want to flog it on eBay for less than the scrap.
