Up the duff

My Dad when referring to pregnant women says they are ‘up the duff’ or ‘up the spout’.

Anyone knows anyone else parents say this? I don’t hear anyone else in my life talk like that.

OP posts:

It's slang. I've heard up the duff loads, not heard up the spout

Georgeskitchen · 20/04/2022 21:22

Up the duff, in the pudding club , bun in the oven 😋

gamerchick · 20/04/2022 21:27

Knocked up. Heard them all.

Raquelos · 20/04/2022 21:46

Yep pretty standard slang terms, not pejorative I dont think, nothing to worry about.

Chely · 20/04/2022 21:48

Yes, of course. Said up the duff about myself. My husband liked the term "with child" after watching vikings.

Onlyhuman123 · 20/04/2022 21:51

Yes heard that and others. Dislike the term, personally. Especially 'she's about to drop'...God I hate that expression.

fallfallfall · 20/04/2022 21:55

Bun in the oven.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 20/04/2022 21:57

It's a pretty common term - loads of people of all ages use it, don't they?

Oysterbabe · 20/04/2022 21:59

I say up the duff all the time 😄

decentchap · 20/04/2022 22:16

It's not a term I would use but I prefer Bun in the Oven or simply pregnant.
Heard it many times and maybe people should be free to use what term they want unless totally pejorative?

BeerLoas · 20/04/2022 22:26

Yes heard this and several alternatives. Generally heard it said in context to a teen or single parent. Don’t hear many mid 30’s MC mums being called “up the duff” and in that sense I think it’s derogatory. Probably generational.

My first ever MN post was a pregnancy test for line eyes, looking back it was clear as day (I was ten weeks) but I was a bit in shock. First response was a long standing poster telling me I was definitely "royally up duffed" , I didn't think it was insulting.

TeddyTonks · 20/04/2022 22:41

My neighbour came to the door the other day and said 'I hear you're up the duff again??'. Said with humorous intent and taken the way intended 😂🤷🏼‍♀️

Windbeneathmybingowings · 20/04/2022 22:53

Standard words tbh.

mrsfollowill · 20/04/2022 22:59

Bit of an old fashioned phrase these days! I hate the 'we are pregnant' announcement from the father though- no you are not! your wife/partner is Grin

In the family way
