Am I worrying over nothing? Please be honest

I’m completing my PGCE at the moment, I always stay every week for my meeting with my mentor which happens once a week, I also attend the school staff meeting every week. I have also attended one of the parents evening which was held.

On the days that I don’t have anything to attend after school I like to leave ASAP obviously making sure any work that needs to take place in school happens. For example marking books and printing work for the best day.

There are some days I leave before 4 and a lot of the time I make sure I leave before 4.30. I just find it awkward as my mentor is working in their classroom and even though they are nice, they don’t speak to me much and I find it awkward sat there with another person in the room in silence.

There’s another student at the school on placement and she stays most nights until at least 5 sometimes longer. She told me this not in a boastful way at all, it’s just because I asked her.

Am I worrying over nothing, will people be taking note of what time I leave school?

I don’t have any children in case that’s relevant at all in terms of leaving school at a certain time.

It’s fine. Do you ask your tutor if there’s anything they’d like you to do? If there’s nothing then don’t worry!
you are going to need to put in clear boundaries as a teacher so start now. If the work is done then go home.

Remember you’re a PGCE student, they are paid and employed to be there in their job. I’m currently doing the same via a SCITT and I have made clear I have to leave by 3:45 other than my weekly mentor meeting where I stay until after 4, staff meeting until 4:30 and planning until 4. I have a baby but I think the amount schools expect on top of everything else is unrealistic.

Also, it’s the university that awards the PGCE based on you passing teacher standards not based on how late you stay.
