Hi! Sorry I have posted on AIBU but mumsnet doesn’t seem to be working that well so thought this may be easier.
could someone please help me work out what these blood test results mean please. I’ve had severe pain and swelling in my joints in my hands and my fingers randomly twitch and spasm.
rheumatoid factor negative
my ESR is 15mm/hr
Serum albumin level 43 g/L
Calcium adjusted level 2.47 mmol/L
Serum total 25-hydroxy vitamin D level 21 nmol/L

Thank you so much if you can help!!

You might need to put the range which should be shown in brackets after your result for each thing tested.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 20/04/2022 19:52

You seem to be a bit deficient in vit D from that last result. How do you feel generally ? have you been unwell recently ?

gwenneh · 20/04/2022 19:55

Agree, the vitamin D is on the low side depending on which range is being used (some cut off at 20 nmol/L and some at 30 nmol/L) but everything else is in normal clinical range unless your ordering physician is looking for some other context.

Mammy55 · 20/04/2022 20:01

This is the reference range given on the result for the vitamin D. Thank you for your help everyone really appreciate it

How did you get the results ?

Mammy55 · 20/04/2022 20:30

@Wrongkindofovercoat on my online GP service app. (Not nhs app) just my GPS own app for ordering prescription and patient records etc

Mammy55 · 20/04/2022 20:32

Sorry I’ve worded that wrong, just to be clear it’s not a private service. It’s just a standard nhs local gp surgery that has a private app for results and access to prescriptions etc

Vit D is low, (quite common for the UK at this time of year). ESR is a bit high which can indicate some inflammation in the body. This is likely to be a short term reaction to something, and one option would be to repeat the test in a few weeks to see if it has gone down, or is still raised. The correct interpretation depends on what the tests were ordered for/what the GP had in mind during the consultation, so the best thing to do would be to ring up and ask to discuss the results.

NetflixMom21 · 21/04/2022 00:51

Vit D deficiency - but not severe - a general multivitamin should do the trick. Also slight inflammation (any recent infections etc) but nothing to worry about as it’s only slightly above. Everything else normal 👍

FarmGirl78 · 11/06/2022 11:48

ESR of 15 is nothing to worry about. The reference range is 0-12 and the lab would only site concern if its above 70ish. Don't worry whatsoever about that.

Moithered · 11/06/2022 12:22

Generally, if there is anything to worry about, your GP will organise a telephone or f2f consultation.
Vitamin D deficiency can make you feel crap. I take a high dose supplement as my body refuses to make any despite exposing my body to the outdoors regularly and eating healthily (most of time!)
