To be disgusted

Visited our local Zoo and Castle yesterday with DS who's not long turned 1.
I was disgusted by the behaviour of some people in front of their kids and at a place full of families with children!

So we saw a guy smoking a spliff!!! Walking and smoking it whilst with his kids effing and jeffing at them may I add, as he puffs away...then, I assume it was the son (I'd say around 6yrs old: so old enough to know better really) pulls his pants down on the path way and starts peeing up the fence where some of the animals were (both parents found it really funny which encouraged him)

Then we passed a guy who full on spat out phlegm in front of everyone (again, with his kids)

Then another guy who finished his cigarette and just flicked it onto the grass hill (luckily no animals there but still a place where I should say they can get to)

Then another family taking a photo of their kids on a wall, I think there were 4 or 5 of the kids between 4-14yrs I'd say.. mum was taking the photo and dad was telling them to all put their fingers up.. she laughed and just carried on taking the photo. Finding it hilarious.

I just can't get my head around how people can behave like this around not only their kids but at a place where it's full of children everywhere!
I feel sorry for the children because this is how they're being brought up to think this is socially acceptable behaviour!
All of this just ruined our visit, we didn't even do the whole tour of it, we just came away and I don't even feel like ever going back which is sad as it's on our doorstep and DS loves animals.

Disgusting

If in the future, could their be two planets, one planet where it's almost a perfect society, and another planet, it's where everyone pretty much rules themselves,

As an academic exercise which would be more productive planet to further humankind and achievements overall ?

MarvelMrs · 19/04/2022 23:27

I work with the public too and agree this is common place now. Along with parents completely ignoring their children and/or shoving them in front of a device instead of helping them to engage with the attraction or situation they are in.

FourChimneys · 19/04/2022 23:30

Some children just don't have a hope of growing up to be decent members of society with role models like that.

Threetulips · 19/04/2022 23:31

And you wonder why people pay a premium to get good schools.

TheChurchOfEli · 19/04/2022 23:34

@MysweetAudrina

Sounds like their kids were enjoying themselves which is more than can be said for you.
If your children can’t enjoy themselves without pissing in public then that says more about your parenting than the the op.
Hawkins001 · 19/04/2022 23:34

@Threetulips

And you wonder why people pay a premium to get good schools.
That's been one of my points , yes equal education for all at the same level and quality, is in theory a nice idea, but when we see how members behaviour is in society, why should the substandard behaviour of certain people prevent the learning of others, hence why I advocate private fee paying schools etc.
Kite22 · 19/04/2022 23:34

Sadly all too common.
Of course, it's likely that the adults you saw, were brought up by parents who were also like that, and they know no different. It is a cycle.

Wouldn't have prompted me to leave the zoo though. Try looking at the animals rather than the people.

Lastsecondfail · 19/04/2022 23:37

What part of the country is this HmmConfused

Shocking behaviour… I can’t believe that some of the commenters think you need to get out more Hmm

lightisnotwhite · 19/04/2022 23:39

Sorry Op. It’s horrible especially as these places aren’t usually cheap.

Manners needs to be a thing again.

Antarcticant · 19/04/2022 23:40

The people at zoos are always more interesting than the animals.

Threetulips · 19/04/2022 23:40

I’d argue the quality of the TV shows doesn’t help. Normalizes the behaviour*

TiptowThroughTheToadstools · 19/04/2022 23:40

YANBU I find the behaviour of some parents absolutely eye watering. Even some of my friends who think nothing of swearing around their kids and having full blown domestics in front of them. I can't imagine ever behaving in such ways, never mind in front of my kids.

BOOTS52 · 19/04/2022 23:41

That is why there is so many feral kids as their parents are chavs and have no basic common sense or parenting skills, I honestly believe some people should never have children or those that keep having them and do not look after them right should be sterilized and I mean those that are drinking non stop with out ever putting their children first. Those parents are everywhere, just brain deads.

Florenz · 19/04/2022 23:45

There needs to be major changes in how things are run in this country because people like this than normal law-abiding people. It is INSANE that we pay people like this to have children and raise them in this way. And politicians aren't interested in doing anything about it despite it clearly being a massive vote winner.

ReadtheReviews · 19/04/2022 23:56

The scummy element OP. Just use them as an example of how not to be.

PlasticineMeg · 19/04/2022 23:57

I’m not perfect, and my kids have been known to have a feral moment or two, but yes so many families behave like absolute scrotes in public. Littering is never OK, in this day and age we should know better

PlasticineMeg · 19/04/2022 23:58

Sounds like the set up in Orwell’s 1984 Grin
whynotwhatknot · 20/04/2022 12:22

You should have reported the cigarette op could be very dangerous

PixieLaLa · 20/04/2022 23:44

Oh yeah that’s the worst part, never mind pissing up an animals enclosure! 😑

PinkSyCo · 20/04/2022 23:53

Blimey where was this? That’s some scummy behaviour and YANBU to be disgusted. I wouldn’t have let it ruin my day though. Couldn’t you just have ignored it and concentrated on giving your DS a nice time?

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 21/04/2022 00:17

There's some right feral behaviour around now. I think numbers are increasing too. It is very sad. I wish people could be well behaved and polite.

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 21/04/2022 09:23

RedMake88 · 19/04/2022 23:01

Dud-lie 😂

What does this mean? A micktake of the local accent or a suggestion the OP is making the story up?

Lalliella · 21/04/2022 09:37

YANBU. People like that are scum. And becoming more commonplace. We’re becoming more selfish as a nation and less considerate to others. The death of society.

hangrylady · 21/04/2022 09:45

Scrotes like these are everywhere, always have been, unfortunately you can't shelter your kids from them. Just point out to your kids that it's unacceptable and be relieved you're not them.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 21/04/2022 09:50

YANBU. It's one thing for a,child to misbehave its very much another for parents to encourage it.
The biggest and most worrying thing is though. Laughing and encouraging him to wee in public. Good God there could have been any dirty paedos lurking around.
