So I’ve tested positive today and I’m due back at work Wednesday.
My head has emailed back that she will give me a call tomorrow to see how I’m feeling as she thinks I’ll be ok to come back Wednesday?
This can’t be right surely?

It sounds like you just want to stay home for 5 days abs you’re disappointed you might have to crack on with work.

CovidSucks123 · 18/04/2022 23:11

Not at all.
I just think it’s disgraceful I’m expected to knowingly put a heavily pregnant work colleague as well as 30 children and all their families at risk because my school doesn’t want to pay a supply for 5 days so it’s safer.

3 days of paying a supply even as I would be back Monday even with the 5 days isolation!

Guidance is here for schools.

www.gov.uk/guidance/people-with-symptoms-of-a-respiratory-infection-including-covid-19#what-to-do-if-you-have-a-positive-covid-19-test-result

Adults should self isolate for 5 days and children for 3.

BasementIdeas · 19/04/2022 00:48

Surely you just stay away from your pregnant colleague.

We have to learn to live with this virus now, as we do everything else. If you’re well enough to go to work then no reason not to

Excited101 · 19/04/2022 01:00

I thought with a positive test, you’re meant to stay at home! I know it’s not a strict isolation like it was, but the government advice is still to stay at home

CovidSucks123 · 19/04/2022 07:57

I’m really surprised individual schools seem to be making their own rules up in regards to this!

They shouldn’t be. They should be following the guidance for schools which is 5 days isolation for adults and 3 for under 18s.

CovidSucks123 · 19/04/2022 10:31

Nope made it very clear that I am expected back unless too unwell to move
I questioned the 5 day rule and she said this wasn’t a given; just a recommendation
I said I was still testing very positive; not even a faint line as yet and she said that didn’t change anything

Ds's school is the same , now before the new guidance came in they were ringing me if he coughed more than once and demanded a pcr, I was so surprised when I rang then to say he had tested postive and they said he could go in anyway if he didn't have a temperature , couldn't actually believe it .

callingon · 19/04/2022 10:42

I also work in a school and I sucked up 4 days missed pay to isolate at home recently (we only get SSP which is now back to starting on day 3 for covid 🙄). I had a lot to say about the government’s covid strategy (or lack thereof) that week 😬😠

Like you I just felt too bad to go in knowing I was positive and knowing there were pregnant staff, most of the kids weren’t vaccinated, loads of them have family members who aren’t vaccinated, there’s vulnerable families etc etc etc… very aware though that some people simply cannot afford to take the hit.

SpringRainbow · 19/04/2022 11:04

My kids school have made it very clear that they expect everyone in unless they are very unwell, test or no test.

They have been stressing the importance of attendance for weeks.
