Dyslexia assessment(s)?

Looking for advice or experiences of what others with dyslexic children have done regarding assessments , and whether it was worth it…
My son is 11, year 6, moving to a good secondary school in September. He was diagnosed with dyslexia&dyscalculia at the very end of year 3, by Helen Arkel (we paid). He is a very bright lad, but his working memory is a challenge to say the least. He has received focussed SEN tutoring over the past two years since being diagnosed.
Most recent assessment at school put him at year 3/4 in writing (handwriting and spelling are awful), year 5 in reading and year5/6 in maths. I think he is doing great, but have no clue really…
We are about to start with a new tutor for English, to continue into secondary school. She asked if there was a new dyslexia assessment, re-assessing his needs. I was planning on another closer to GCSEs, but am now doubting…

Did any of you with dyslexic children do “regular” re-assessments? If so, how often, and when/what stages? Did you find it worth it? What are the benefits long term?

Thank you!

My DS has dyslexia. When he was in year 7 I had him re- assessed by an Ed Psych. It was the right time as we were able to see what wasn’t and wasn’t working at his new school so the Ed psych was able to make recommendations accordingly.

My dd was assessed for dyslexia in yr8 (for the first time). The assessor issued her a report that she stated would be submittable if she went for disabled student support at university level. I think once dyslexia is diagnosed it is diagnosed isn't it? It is not something you 'recover' from?

I would however expect any new tutor to make their own assessments to inform learning but I would expect this to be done by the tutor over the first (few?) Lessons not another external assessment...

Hi it was helpful for me
Altho I was diagnosed with dyslexia actually what was more beneficial was also a diagnosis of dyspraxia which has actually explained so much more for me
I wouldn’t have got that or understood why I struggle with super basic things (like tying shoelaces and catching and throwing) without it
It actually made me feel stupid and useless
But now I’m like cool ok, have dyspraxia

Everyone knew I had dyslexia because it was pretty blatant so it was the other diagnoses that came
From the assessment that were beneficial

If that even makes sense!!

I have a dyslexic DS and we were told that assessments need to be redone every 3 years, as while the diagnosis has been made, their needs and the level of support they need from school will change with time. I was told that in terms of getting extra support, extra time for tests and exams, etc, an up to date report is needed. He was first diagnosed and 7 and we just had his second report done at age 10. The Ed Psych picked up something new this time that was not as easy to see when he was younger, so it is worth getting the reports redone from that POV too. Report 1 showed dyslexia, slow processing and poor working memory, Report 2 showed possible ADHD as well, so we're now looking into getting him tested for that.
