A kebab shop driver just came to my door and asked if I'd ordered food. He said he was asked to check as it looked like a fake order. I havent ordered any food. Definitely my house as he said the address.

Why on earth would anyone fake order food to my address? What's the purpose of this??

I'd be concerned that he was casing my home and using the kebab story as a ruse.

That was my first thought.

I'd have taken the food

Arghhconfused · 18/04/2022 18:11

@Aquamarine1029 actually, he didn't have any food with him. Hmm I'm a bit worried now

I'd be cautious. It's a very old trick.

Did he say what kebab shop? Do you can phone and check?

I have heard of ordering food to others address and getting it sent 'cash on delivery'. Usually someone you don't like or are trying to prank.

Arghhconfused · 18/04/2022 18:35

He did say what kebab shop and its one quite close but I literally have an excellent one on my doorstep.

Im very safety conscious and have multiple locks and alarms on my door. I'll be very cautious

Call the kebab shop to check.

However, takeaway owners are usually on alert for obvious fake orders - they can be oddly uniform ('can I have six large kebab and chips please') and/or excessive. Purpose being to either piss off the recipient or waste the restaurants time and money.

I can imagine that if it was close enough they might send a driver to check - I'd say its more likely to have been a genuine visit tbh as surely someone casing the joint would just say they were looking for a missing dog or similar.

We did that as kids, make a fake order, not sure why, cause we were twats who thought it was funny. Prank calls to, to the US, to ask the time. Maybe kids? There was no internet when I was a kid so that's why we had to entertain ourselves with silliness.
