DH wants us to go for a once-in-a-lifetime meal. We’re in France, one of the top chefs in the world has several restaurants here. His flagship restaurant offer a menu which is €310, not including wine. So we’d be looking at around €700 at least for the two of us. For one meal. Even the children menu is €75.

I can appreciate good food, lovely surroundings, excellent service. But at that price? Even if we could afford it without blinking, I just don’t think I could justify it. Maybe I am being too tight though?

We recently went to a MPW restaurant and it was just over £100 for 2. Totally not worth it.
I don't think these chefs are all that

We pay that at our local pub.

I wouldn;t but that's because I'm fussy and there are lots of things (shell fish/offal etc) that I don;t eat - also I don;t have the money!

I did once spend £50 on a meal just for me (missed my birthday due to covid so treated myself to a night away and a meal) plus wine - it was worth it - Craft in Birmingham - delicious food and great service

😂 I don’t think I’ve ever heard Paul Bocuse being described as not “all that” 😱😂. I might try that out on my French friends though 😂

@Anonymouslyposting
yes, wincing for several weeks after is what worries me. We could afford it, but could doesn’t necessarily= should.

Yes! DH and I have done it a many times. It's always worth it to me, but then I LOVE eating and food and wine are my hobbies. We used to travel a lot pre-DS and pre-Covid and always tried to eat somewhere fancy or interesting wherever we went.

Ha ha yes I expect you do. We're in deep dark South Wales where a 3 course pub meal would be £20 per head 😂

No I have had some lovely meals out that I would consider quite expensive for us but food does not have to cost so much to be good. You are paying for the experience and surroundings and prestige. If you think this is worth that amount then so be it. I wouldn't personally.
