Aibu Easter eggs

Maybe this is just jealously speaking as I don’t have disposable income to do this for my DD. I only got her two eggs and a soft rabbit bunny but yesterday I saw so many posts from people I know with 2 year olds. They had about 20 large chocolate eggs as well as presents, Easter balloons, sweets, banners. All sorts. Aibu to think this is OTT for toddlers.

OP posts:

My daughter is 5 and we gave her a chocolate Easter bunny and did a local Easter trail. That’s it. That’s plenty.

Patchbatch · 18/04/2022 14:28

2 eggs and a bunny sounds great :)

Babar100 · 18/04/2022 14:47

I think what you got is plenty, it’s very kind but I get fed up of my dc getting spoiled by everyone around me. We just get one egg and a soft toy for them but they end up with a ridiculous amount of chocolate and toys from family and friends. It’s the same at xmas and birthdays….and I worry they won’t appreciate it.

As I say it is kind though and I don’t want to be that miserable person that tells friends and family not to do it and I’m guilty of it myself when it comes to their kids.

1forAll74 · 18/04/2022 14:54

A child having just one Easter egg is not a problem at all,as they will always enjoy it anyway. Easter has now become like Christmas,in terms of shops merchandise, and adverts all over the place on TV etc, and people succumb to all the stuff they see everywhere, and feel they are bad parents, if they don't get their kids loads of Easter eggs, etc, and too many, too soon, for very little children is the usual thing.

stayathomer · 18/04/2022 14:56

I hate social media for this and OP it's all smoke and mirrors, never believe other people are better off than you! the kids got easter eggs from neighbours, the school and family. We got them one egg each but had we posted on sm people would have been jealous too. The only other thing that annoyed me was all the people looking to donate their children's easter eggs because they got too many. I'm not sure that's fair on the kids, very much 'controlled fun!!'

RoomOfRequirement · 18/04/2022 14:58

I don't have DC but if I did I'd buy them 20 eggs so I could eat 18 of them Grin

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 18/04/2022 15:08

We were poor growing up, but am grateful for that now as we weren't stuffed full of chocolate and sweets.

I was jealous when I was a child, but sugar addictive and causes so many diseases, that I am pleased now.

MegaClutterSlut · 18/04/2022 15:09

20 eggs for a toddler Confused it just makes them look ridiculous imo

My dc are older but I've always only bought them 1 £1 egg and a small chocolate bar each. That's it, they have enough crap through out the rest of the year

Allthecheeseplease · 18/04/2022 15:17

It usually people with no money who do things like that. Expecially if it's then put on social media "Look what I have" , "Look what we can afford" Same with piles and piles of Christmas presents. It's totally ridiculous. One egg is enough.

dotmckee · 18/04/2022 15:27

My little one is going to be 2 in July, we didn't bother with Easter - we aren't religious and we don't have a lot of sugar in her diet at the moment, so the Easter eggs for her tend to be eaten up by Mum and Dad, which isn't particularly healthy for us either! Maybe next year when she has a better understanding of the Easter bunny we will do a little Easter egg hunt in the back garden. Hope this post has made you feel a little better - everyone does Easter a little differently and you don't have to spend a ton of money for a little one who won't know any different!

HELLITHURT · 18/04/2022 15:28

20 eggs for a toddler is not good parenting!

CheeseCheeseCheeseCheese · 18/04/2022 15:29

You need to come off of Instagram if pictures of Easter eggs can make you feel miserable and jealous.

CheeseCheeseCheeseCheese · 18/04/2022 15:39

We especially don't need to cast out such horrible slurs as other posters have done on this thread

What slurs?

Svara · 18/04/2022 15:45

OTT for any child, not just a toddler. A large egg is over 200g. One medium egg and some hunting eggs if doing a hunt is loads for a young child.

Bywayofanupdate · 18/04/2022 15:46

It's ridiculous! Who needs that much chocolate?? Mine get one egg each from us and we do some Easter crafts. That's it. Yanbu

workingmomlife · 18/04/2022 15:51

You sound awfully judgy OP of parents who do get their kids more than one egg or might make it more of an event than you do?

We've always done an Easter egg hunt in the garden - bag of small eggs from Lidl £2.99 - no more expensive than most of the bigger singular eggs in the supermarket. It's once a year but then I've never subscribed to this culture of virtue signalling performance parenting which decries the "waste" of getting a child more than one egg. I can happily confirm not a single egg has gone to waste in our house 😋

00100001 · 18/04/2022 15:53

2 eggs and a toy for Easter is 1 egg and a toy too many 🤷‍♀️

GoFishandChips · 18/04/2022 15:56

Made my two year a basket of beautiful handmade items from Etsy, she wasn't interested in anything but the plush toy, I've packed the rest away to give again next year when she might care a bit more.

longwayoff · 18/04/2022 16:03

Of course it's OTT and unnecessary. Chuck the leftovers, if you have them, in the freezer and use them up over the next few months. And if you can't afford to over indulge your kids in the toxic sugar fest, be glad. They'll survive.

AnnaSW1 · 18/04/2022 16:28

We buy ours one. But several other people buy them eggs or toys too.

Obviously a bag of eggs is the equivalent of one boxed egg. The OP wasn't about the number of eggs of any size, it mentioned 20 large eggs.
JudgeJ · 18/04/2022 20:30

Easter balloons, sweets, banners.

AS long as people are gullible to buy them the manufacturers of seasonal tat will go on producing it. Is there not an Easter Eve box available or have I hit on a good commercial idea?
I have a set of wooden Easter decorations that we've used for 40+years on some furry twigs and little foil wrapped eggs hanging, that's the lot! On that subject Waitrose were asking £10 for 4 or 5 twigs of willow!!!

Sweetener12 · 19/04/2022 07:14

20 chocolate eggs is definitely OTT for any child, leave alone a toddler. Do whatever makes you and your DC happy, OP! We don't do gifts, just chocolate eggs (and certainly NOT 20!) and smartshow 3d videos with bunnies and stuff. The kids are happy.

jelly79 · 19/04/2022 07:18

The fact that you know about it is because people show off on SM. That's really showy, especially when so many families are struggling

You got your DC plenty don't stress x
