to think Ebay is just ludicrously expensive ?

An Ikea hemnes chest of drawers £150 brand new. Ebay seller wants £120 for a used item. I offered £100 which was declined with no counter offer. Feel like just buying new. This was ideal as only £10 miles away, similar cheaper items are all in the south. Other slightly larger items are £300- 400 for a flatpack ikea item. Just seems greedy. Is this a universal thing with Ebay now ?

IKEA items bizarrely hold their value.

When I was selling loads when we moved, most was sold for 75% of new price.

Due to

A/. Location
B/. It being assembled

You'd probably fare better looking on your local FB selling sites.

Will do.

I've noticed that secondhand ikea furniture is often not that cheap and I think it has a lot to do with
A) not having to go to ikea yourself (my "local" ikea is an hours drive and it's such a massive building that it's probably a couple of hours minimum inside the bloody maze on top of the travel) plus getting it in the car, £40 delivery charge if you can't, lugging it to and fro. It's all stress really, isn't it?
B) it's already built for you. (Again: stressful!)
People list it for however much they want for it, often they are chancing their arm but if it's too high, no one buys it and it comes down.

zingally · 18/04/2022 13:22

They hold their value because someone else has already gone to the effort of going to IKEA, lugging the thing around, ramming it in the car and then assembling it.

Basically you're paying for NOT having to do that.

Local facebook groups might be better.

AHungryCaterpillar · 18/04/2022 13:35

Ikea stuff definitely holds it’s value as the delivery is expensive £40 where I am, so unless you have access to a car then you will struggle to get stuff from there or you might
Live very far from one, so people know this so of course they will base the price on that. One that surprised me was primark, wanted a cardigan but my local primark is tiny and have no cardigans in Confused thought I would get one on eBay , saw one but it went for £10.50 with £3.20 postage, second hand and more than they cost new Hmm

Ebay is just a big shop. You buy the things that are cheaper and if things are expensive, you go elsewhere. There's always deals to be found.

Fidodidit · 18/04/2022 13:39

This is interesting because I live close to an IKEA and have that the opposite experience so end up just dropping into a charity shop.

Their fees are a rip-off, you have to pay listing fees, a percentage of the sale price and then paypal fees as well.

returntoUK · 18/04/2022 13:44

Just seems greedy.

YABU, eBay sellers are selling to make a profit, not to supply you with cheap, already assembled furniture at a cost convenient to you.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 18/04/2022 14:21

YANBU a lot of secondhand stuff is daft prices - I dodge this issue by not buying things I think are too expensive.
