To expect John Lewis to make it clear that they have a 7 hour deliver slot before you order goods

We ordered a bed for our toddler last week and looked at the delivery conditions before deciding to definitely go for it.

Their published conditions said they would deliver between 9 and 6, Monday to Friday. I thought that was fine, I could arrange a morning delivery and drop my other daughter off at school slightly early and be home by 9am.

The next day, their call centre rang to arrange delivery with me and I was offered today between 2:45 and 9:30pm. I said that it was quite a long time period and I'd have to do the school run. He then tried to offer me the same time on friday and couldn't understand why that wasn't any better. The morning slot offered was 7:30am to 1:45pm so that wasn't any better either.

I was also told that they couldn't ask the driver to deliver after 4pm either as it wasn't policy.

I wrote to their head of customer services and today received a real brush off reply that they provide a national delivery service and quoted the delivery details from their website at me.

So am I being unreasonable in thinking that they should quote the correct delivery timeslots on their website rather than their made up one. Had I known I'd have all this difficulty then I'd have ordered from somewhere else in the first place.

I currently feel such rage towards the writer of the letter I received today that he is lucky I'm waiting in for a bed to be delivered or I'd kneecap him.

they always ring me on my mobile an hour before they get to me in case I've popped out.

Normally they would make a note that you would be doing the school runs at certain times and not to come then. It isn't rocket science.

I'm surprised they haven't been more accomodating tbh.

I had a f/freezer and washer/dryer delivered early december. they gave me a delivery period o 7am-1pm and promised the driver would call me 30 mins before delivery.

i had explained the property was empty as we hadn't moved in yet. they also told me it was highly unlikely that they would deliver early as they like to return to the depot empty and i am not hugely far from the depot.

they rang me at 7:30am when the driver was at teh property. they said they'd go and do a delivery 1 mile away and come back. meantime my mother went rushing over there and was there by 7:45am to see the van driving off.

I threw all manner of hissy fits and they agreed to take the items off the van and put them on a courrier and deliver before 9pm that night.

it took most of the day to get this confirmed and the did finally deliver around 7pm but it was hugely stressful.

they were quite indignant that i hadn't just paid for a 2 hour slot. i would have gladly done so had they told me i could have!

anyways, i guess i was quite impressed with how much effort they went to in order to get teh items delivered that day.

probably my hysterical rantings about having to move in with a toddler with no fridge or washing machine scared the pants off 'em!

If I could have paid to have it delivered at a more convenient time then I would have done but that option wasn't offered.

I've written back to the customer service manager and need to post it later telling him that I'm still not happy and I'll see what they say.

I may start a boycott John Lewis campaign though, if I don't get a better apology from them.

Oh don't tell me about the two hour slots. A few years ago we ordered two beds and mattresses from JL, and paid extra for a two hour delivery slot. At the time both dh and I worked long hours so I arranged to get to our new, empty flat well in time for the 6-8pm delivery.

Did the items turn up - did they heck! We waited until 11pm in an empty flat with no furniture and no dinner - we had forgotten to take take away phone numbers with us. When we rang JL they were none too helpful and didn't even offer to refund the delivery charge until we asked them to.

The items were eventually delivered, but not without a load of to-ing and fro-ing. Thankfully we haven't had to have anything delivered from then since.

whenever john lewis have delivered things to us it's been 7am!

I am really surprised. I always explain I am on school runs and give my mobile number and the lovely JL driver gives me call...
