Housemate adopting a cat...?

maartjebaabes · 18/04/2022 11:23

My DSD (20s)shares a flat with another girl. career girl, single, late 30s. DSD has a cat. Defintely hers, she bought it, pays for it etc.
When flatmate was away, DSD had to let a plumber into flatmate's room.
There was a mother's day card, in flatmate's writing, to flatmate from the cat!
I think this is harmless fun for someone who is lonely.
Others in our group think this is superweird , somewhere between emotional abuse and stealth catnapping. And possibly a gateway to more serious acts like infant abduction. Who is BU?

It's weird for sure but I wouldn't say it will lead to infant abduction. What a strange link! Maybe your SD should look for somewhere else to live if she's weirded out.

Stirlingline · 18/04/2022 11:41

It was probably just for instagram, there was a specific tag for pet cards on Mother’s Day and the photos were getting thousands of likes. Infant abduction is rare and I don’t think loving a cat a lot is a gateway action.

“ Others in our group think this is superweird , somewhere between emotional abuse and stealth catnapping. And possibly a gateway to more serious acts like infant abduction”

Wow that’s some leap there.

sobby49 · 18/04/2022 11:54

TBH I would be a bit concerned she was gonna steal the cat when I planned on moving out eventually

Boood · 18/04/2022 11:56

The “others in your group” sound completely batshit.

Haus1234 · 18/04/2022 11:58

Who’s to say a relative or friend of the flatmate hasn’t got similar handwriting and wrote the card? Feels like a bit of a leap to actual crimes OP.

Daenerys77 · 18/04/2022 12:11

It is sad and a bit weird, but hardly emotional abuse-who's being abused? The cat won't know or care.

wendywoopywoo222 · 18/04/2022 12:11

Definatly log it with 101. 😂😂

I sent myself a valentines card many many years ago when all my friends had boyfriends and I didn't. I've not yet felt the urge to abduct a child because of it.

TheSnowyOwl · 18/04/2022 12:12

Your DSD shouldn’t go nosing around somebody else’s room.

AskingforaBaskin · 18/04/2022 12:20

Wow what a bitch.

Who the hell does your SD think she is looking through someone's private items and then sharing them with others and shit stirring like that.

Poor girl being surrounded by some awful people. Maybe try and help SD be a better person.

This. What a horrible person she is.

Yet! Just don’t linger around schools, you never know what urges might come up 😂

Emotional abuse and infant abduction from a stupid card? What a bunch of utter ninnys, I'm rolling my eyes very hard at this.

pigsDOfly · 18/04/2022 12:45

Okay, it's a bit weird to give yourself a card from a cat but hardly the mark of a criminal.

More importantly, why is your SD going through her flatmate's room and reading a private message on a card and then telling people about it?

Flatmate sounds lonely but your SD sounds rude/nosey and nasty.

Qwill · 18/04/2022 12:47

I think DSD is being quite mean. You don’t need to snoop round a room to let a plumber in, and you definitely don’t need to gossip about what you find in there.

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 18/04/2022 12:48

Infant abduction 😂😂😂

Els1e · 18/04/2022 12:57

All of you. Your dsd for snooping and telling you, you for gossiping, the others for their mean and critical opinions.

The daughter sounds like the one on the cusp of criminality from this not the roommate. Maybe daughter will grow up to be a burglar 😂
britneyisfree · 18/04/2022 13:05

Call the police! My goodness, why are you wasting time on Mumsnet when clearly the cat is in danger????

Hmm
lemongreentea · 18/04/2022 13:29

You and your step daughter sound loopy.

Chikapu · 18/04/2022 13:37

Are you a 100% sure the cat didn't send the card? I'd have everyone's handwriting analysed tbh.

Also, your SD needs to ensure her cat is chipped and her details are registered as owner.
