To be a tad disappointed I’m not in the photos

Recently I had a night out at the local bar with a small number of my friends for my birthday and we took some photos but it ended up I was the designated photographer! I tried to get one of me in it but it was so busy so it was impossible to get another one again!

I was in one photo but you can barely see me due to the angle of the camera.

AIBU to be a bit disappointed I’m barely in them? They put them on social media and you wouldn’t even think I was at my own birthday night out!

Get some new friends

Kite22 · 17/04/2022 16:32

even when I've mentioned this to OH, my mum etc they still don't take any.

See, this is what I don't understand. Why don't you say "Can you take one of me with my Mum please" or to your Mum "It would be great to have one of the 4 {?} of us, Mum will you take one of me, dh and the dc together please"
It's not difficult.

Yanbu

I hate this. I’m the only one that takes photos and I’m never in them. I hate having to ask. Yet everyone wants to share the photos on Facebook and it looks like I’m not even there!

drpet49 · 17/04/2022 16:33

YANBU. It was your birthday for heavens sake. Poor form from your so called friends.

I’ve always asked a stranger to take a photo of our group so that no one is ever left out. Your friends don’t sound nice.

UnsuitableHat · 17/04/2022 16:34

I’d be disappointed too but would have insisted that someone took one of me! No need for a ‘designated photographer’; everyone has camera phones.

Cocomarine · 17/04/2022 16:35

Lesson learned - you’ve got a tongue in your head!

SnowyPetals · 17/04/2022 16:38

Chalk it up as a lesson learned. Never get into the situation where you're taking all the pictures. You literally hand your phone to a friend and say, "Can you take one of me and X, Y, Z?" or ask the bar staff. Then stop taking any more.

InFiveMins · 17/04/2022 16:48

YANBU. It was your birthday, and they are your friends. They should have made the effort to include you in the photos. I'd be hurt and would be wondering if there was a reason why they didn't want me in them.

Ohyesiam · 17/04/2022 16:55

As long as it’s only a tad

@LookItsMeAgain

If the photos are on social media, I'd have to put up a comment like "Even though these were taken when we were all out for my birthday, you wouldn't know it from these photos. A good night was had by all"

The next party you're at, take some selfies and photos with some of the attendees (practice if you need to before you go out so that you know if you hold the camera one way you'll be in the photo, that kind of thing) and then you'll be in the next set of pics.

Don’t write this.
Shinyandnew1 · 17/04/2022 17:02

Not everyone can be bothered to take photos-that doesn’t make them rubbish friends. If it’s you that’s bothered or upset, you need to make sure you ask someone to take a photo with you in.

Moveorstay2022 · 17/04/2022 17:09

"Not everyone can be bothered to take photos" - but it's always those same friends who hound you to "share the pics" from the minute you leave so that they can put them up on SM!

Momijin · 17/04/2022 17:13

That really annoys me. I seem to be the main photographer which I like but I just think it should be normal that if I take a pic of you then you bloody well take a pic of me! Don't take any pics next time op, just take selfies with someone.

Kettledodger · 17/04/2022 17:18

YABU Do you have a voice? They asked you to take photos you take a couple then you say with your voice ..."someone else take a photo I want to be in some" just like an adult would. Sorry to get all PA but really?!

No that's not on. If they want to be in photos then it stands to reason that op might want to be in some too. Especially as it is her birthday. What kind of selfish bitches don't think to take some pics of the birthday person??

Everyone would think you were a dick if you wrote that
goaskmum · 17/04/2022 17:52

Yeah I suppose PP are right, I should have opened my gob and said that I’d like to be in the photos or I could have said I’m not taking the photo, I’ll ask member of staff or another member of the public if they can take it so I can be in the photo!
