I am generally a laid back person not known for public outbursts... leave that to my hot headed dh.

Today however I was waiting at a crossing on a busy road, I had pressed the button the light had changed I was starting to cross and a crappy red metro shot through the red... I saw the passengers and driver (all teenage boys what a cliche!) staring back at me staring at them so they knew what they had done and to whom (I had dd in buggy).

I was on my way to tescos which means walking into the car park which is where the teens were going as well. Normally I would not be confronted with the whoever had nearly run me over that day - but they got of the car and were laughing and joking with each other directly behind me so by the time I got to the entrance I literally had steam coming out of my ears I was soooo angry!!!

I kind of flipped and swung my buggy round to face them making them stop in their tracks and yelled 'Sorry did I nearly run you over then!!?? F*ing idiots' then I stormed into the shop behind them.

I went and hung around in the veg isle till i calmed down as I didn't want another encounter and i knew I would not see them there!

So was I ott - I think I probably was but having worked in transport and road safety policy I know all about Road Traffic accident stats and how many children are killed on our roads each year - I fear for my childrens safety when idiots are given licences.

I wouldn't worry about it I once called a man a "c*nt" in HMV because he pushed n front of me in a que. Not my normal style but he was an arrogant prat.

kerryk · 09/01/2008 12:59

no yanbu, maybe next time he will pay more attention when he is driving, i would have been fuming as well. perhaps i would have been calmer if it was only me but i would have seen red if i had my dd in the buggy.

VictorianSqualor · 09/01/2008 13:02

I have a form of unstoppable verbal diarohhea with those type of people too, dont worry about it.

CarGirl · 09/01/2008 13:03

you should have taken the licence number and reported them to the police - only useful if you can random random letters & number in a sequence

bigmouthstrikesagain · 09/01/2008 13:03

thank you- I do really think you should not be given a full licence till you are 25 or something. I remember how many accidents my driving friends were involved in when aged 17-21.

I think you were brave and hopefully it'll make at least one of the boys realise how dangerous their actions were.

theBOD · 09/01/2008 14:01

not wrong to have a go at them i would have done the same, but i'm a 22yr old guy and am a safe driver. and in my experience (only my personal experience i know stats are against me) i see far worse driving from older people than i do most of my mates (although there are 1 or 2 i wouldn't get in a car with.)

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 09/01/2008 14:03

You would only have made your point if they realised it was you they had nearly run over.

MsSparkle · 09/01/2008 14:18

I don't think you made your point enough! I would have said something to them about jumping the red light!

Or wait till they went in Tesco and let their tyres down!

Wisteria · 09/01/2008 14:22

Well done for confronting them my fellow Smiths fan..I don't think you were harsh enough!

I would have tried to completely embarrass them at the same time, not quite sure how I would have done that though.....possibly asking in a very loud voice whether they had actually ever read the highway code, or were they aware of the road law stating that red light meant 'stop'.

Twinkie1 · 09/01/2008 14:26

God no that not bad - I once told an old lady that she was probably one of those vile smelly old ladies who sit on the bus flashing their *** at people because they don't have the decency to shut their legs - she pushed in front of me in the queue knowing their was a long queue and I was pregnant angry and craving.

Bitch knew she had overstepped the mark I can tell you!

This is so not me though believe me please!

itsahardknocklife · 09/01/2008 14:27

lol Twinkie1 - what did the old lady say in return?

Twinkie1 · 09/01/2008 14:30

Nothing - I was very prettily dressed as was at a party and had to pop out to satisfy my craving and I do use my poshest voice when I shout at people so being shouted at by a tall, immaculate very heavily pregnant woman is probably quite intimidating for a 4ft skinny old lady!

God I will have to go to confession this weekend and then will have to track her down and apologise won't I?

bigmouthstrikesagain · 09/01/2008 14:30

MrBod - thank you for making your point - It is unfair to tar all younger drivers with the same brush but unfortunately statistics do show a higher accident rate for 18-25 yo (hence higher insurance) perhaps more time needs to be spent at school educating teenagers to be safer drivers. In my job for a London Borough I was involved in road safety projects for younger children but more attention needs to be given to the older pupils.

I should have given more thought to what i said but I knew they knew who i was - and i was incoherent with anger

yep that is the one downside of being young, older people skipping you in line for checkouts/tills. and then you get looked at like a thug because you're the 20 something guy berating a little old lady i a supermarket.
