To not know how to do the Easter bunny?

pastaparadise · 16/04/2022 23:52

Posting here as I can't find chat and need some answers before I go to bed soon! Dc are 7 and 5. Both still believe in the Easter bunny. How do people hide eggs in the garden without them seeing??

Both are early risers so doing before they get up would mean alarm at 5-5.30 ish... Dp says to distract with the iPad and do it in the morning, but they are both so excited I don't think it'll work. Both our living areas face onto the garden so I'd be quite obvious. I don't want to leave them overnight as we have badgers visiting which I think would nibble them.

Any top tips?

Never did easter bunny tbh
Can you hide them in the house instead

EatTheToast · 16/04/2022 23:55

I hide some around the house then tell DS he must go upstairs to get dressed before he can find any outside and hide them whilst he's getting ready.

mamamilkmachine · 16/04/2022 23:55

Mine are hidden around the house with the clues for the next one Smile

Snowwhiteandthesevendwarfs · 16/04/2022 23:55

I've never hard of hiding around the garden, they were always hidden around the house when I was younger and that's what we do now I have children, they need to be higher up though as I have a rather greedy dog who would go routing around if he could.

Maternitynamechange · 16/04/2022 23:55

Please set up a camera to snap a badger eating an Easter egg!

FairyJuice · 16/04/2022 23:57

I keep telling mine that the Easter bunny isn't real (in a nice way) but the school keep filling their heads with it. It's ridiculous really!

Anyhow, I knock up 6-7 egg hunt questions and leave little treats at every point, with the main eggs at the end. All indoors.

ShitUsername · 16/04/2022 23:58

Hide them inside instead?

RicherThanYew · 17/04/2022 00:00

You're over thinking it Op, do it indoors the night before when they're fast asleep. Leave a main starter clue in the open for them to find with easy/medium/hard clues for the next location depending on their age. Last clue reveals the location of the "Big" egg, all the treats with the clues are teensy ones. Jobs a good un, I am however knackered now as there's 14 clues altogether this year.

DorritLittle · 17/04/2022 00:00

We hide ours in the garden but they know we hide them. I have never made more than a passing reference to the Easter Bunny. Santa is bad enough!

pastaparadise · 17/04/2022 00:01

It never occurred to me to do it indoors!! I found them in the garden as a child so have just done the same. That would have saved me no end of bother! But they assume the bunny does outdoors deliveries now. Damn!

For that age we just hid inside instead.

Only did outside when really little and could sneak out and basically toss them around quickly because so young that really hiding would have made impossible.

I have a teenager now and I asked her if I really had to hide them this year. I’m willing to just hand over the booty. She said yes. Challenge accepted.

Ponderingwindow · 17/04/2022 00:03

Our house happens to be located somewhere that some years outdoors just can’t happen. It never really was a problem to switch back and forth.

MoiraNotRuby · 17/04/2022 00:05

The Easter bunny might have put them in the garden during the pandemic/what the DC remember but is allowed inside now 😉

First clue explains they have to do this as pair.

I suggest 5 clues on paper leading to next clues. Good final place for the eggs = under a covered table, inside the washing machine, or in a laundry hamper.

jokalyn · 17/04/2022 00:10

@pastaparadise my kids have never thought about the Easter bunny being real like they do with Father Christmas , so they don't have any expectations. But if you kids are brought up thinking a bunny is laying eggs in the garden for them to find you can't disappoint them. It might be hard but if you have that magic just go with it for as long as you can.
My biggest shock was the whole tooth fairy idea which they adore but before they lose all their teeth their too old to be conned and know it's all fake. You don't have long for the child fun

MyBottomDecides · 17/04/2022 00:13

Alarm set for 5:30 so I can chuck thm round the garden before DC wake up. I rather love doing it, all exciting and dewy, and then going back to bed - and it beats the wildlife eating them. Never do clues though, just a scatter of small eggs all over the place. We always find one or two of them several months later!

SmellyOldOwls · 17/04/2022 00:14

I'm going to get DH to take him a walk to the shop or something. Or maybe I'll just put some YouTube shite on like Vlad and Niki and stand at the back door and throw them in the general direction of the garden Grin

LimeSupper · 17/04/2022 00:14

DH goes down to check if the bunny has been yet. If you’re awake when he comes, he scares easily and may not leave eggs! The DC snuggle in our bed with me and DH trails off to check for signs of eggs, whilst furiously throwing the eggs outside Grin

WannabeGilmoreGirl · 17/04/2022 00:18

Easter bunny leaves a note to say how many eggs are hidden in the lounge. Kids find eggs and eat them all before breakfast.

MinesATriple · 17/04/2022 00:26

We are lazy and keep the curtains closed. DC are not well trained enough to open them reliably before we are up. Or, one year DH kept them busy with breakfast at the back of the house while I ran round the front garden. DH thinks it's all extremely silly and laughs at me.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 17/04/2022 00:31

We hid some in the garden a few years ago. They got eaten by an unknown animal and what was left melted. Do it in the house.

TracyMosby · 17/04/2022 00:36

Our small hunt eggs are around the house. The dog is locked in the bedroom with me. He wont move until I get up. They have presents in the living room in an easter basket, aNd one main egg each. We cover the opening of the lounge door in wrapping paper for them to burst through. We do the same at Christmas. It is their favourite bit.

pastaparadise · 17/04/2022 00:40

Funnily enough I'm was never planning to do the whole pretend it's real thing, it just evolved from bits they picked up at nursery. We aren't religious, and don't have a big family to see, so I wanted something to make Easter special and sadly it seems its chocolate. I might try and sneakily throw some round the garden while they're distracted early am, then lay a clue trail to find a big one from us after. Wean them onto the idea that we can buy eggs too!

Do it in the house this year. Next year buy plastic eggs and reward them with one big egg each. Thats what I do. Goes down a treat.

justasimplelife · 17/04/2022 00:51

Chocolate eggs inside - plastic eggs with shiny coins in outside - decorations etc Inside - I'm exhausted with this - I go way over the top I know !

MyCatIsAJerk · 17/04/2022 00:55

“Go upstairs while Daddy hides the eggs!”

I don’t remember ever really believing in the Easter Bunny, just in the fun of looking for the eggs. My kids were the same.
