Is this pelvic inflammatory disease?

Sorry posting here for traffic as seriously concerned and panicked.

Have seen a gyno yesterday for suspected endometriosis. Had a scan and she's mentioned my tube looks like it has fluid in which could be caused by an infection but my std checks are clean.

I've looked into this online and I keep getting pelvic inflammatory disease come up.

Would it be possible for me to have pelvic inflammatory for years without being aware? I've got barely any symptoms of this either - most common seems to be stomach pains and discharge which I have neither.
I've seen this is mainly through stds or bv etc but my tests are all clear for this.

I had an mri scan and ultrasound - would this have shown up there if I had suspected pelvic inflammatory?

Gyno never mentioned pelvic inflammatory but I didn't think about it either until reading about it at home.

Really concerned I have this and about my fertility.

Pls can somebody advise? Thank you

Hi there, I had fluid in my tubes. Discovered in my early 30s, my ex gave me chlamydia early 20s... (he admitted it at the time, and I got it treated). Are you worried solely about fertility? x

worriedbear · 16/04/2022 22:51

@Cordell

Thank you. I've had all std checks last week and they were all clear so surely I can't have an std?
Yes I am solely worried about fertility. X

I'm sorry I can't answer that one 😔 all I know is Chlamydia can lie dormant for a long time. I have endo too so that may not have helped my tube situation.
Strange if you've tested negative though.
Hope you get the answers soon and all is ok x

worriedbear · 16/04/2022 23:07

@Cordell

Thank you. I've never had any symptoms for chlamydia (or any stds) and my last sexual partner was about 11 years ago so surely it would have shown up?

Have you got children now? Apologies for asking, feel free to ignore x

At the time my (now ex) boyfriend told me he had it, I got tested - I had no symptoms whatsoever, however tested positive.

My husband and I have been trying for 8 years, and last year I had to have both tubes removed. No children for us, however have ivf coming up so fingers crossed. Apparently ivf success rate is higher when you remove blocked tubes, so taking it as a positive.

I didn't want to not respond to your post, I feel bad now though that the only response you have had is a negative. Sorry 😞
I'm sure tomorrow morning you'll be inundated with lots of positive stories about people with a blocked tube starting families Flowers i'm nearly 40 too, so age and my stage 4 endo is against me, fingers crossed you'll be absolutely fine and have a family, i'm sure i'm the minority ❤ x

@Cordell

Don't be silly, I don't want to sugarcoat anything x

I'm so sorry for asking, I feel really rude now. However, I too have heard that removing the blocked tubes is best before ivf. I wish you all the very, very best xxx

No need to apologise at all Smile thank you, ditto ❤ x

I had PID many years ago, also thought to be caused by a dormant and undiagnosed case of chlamydia. I never had any symptoms of either and it was discovered during fertility testing.

I had ivf to conceive my first and my further two children were conceived naturally so it is always possible.

Best of luck OP

@Mummysgonetobed

Thank you for replying.
My std tests are clear - would this show if it was dormant from over 11 years ago?

I don't know if I have pelvic inflammatory - it's just from me googling and self diagnosing :(

Thank you for giving me hope xx

I had a laparoscopy for severe pelvic pain & the first diagnosis was PID, my ovaries & tubes were grey & looked dead. I had a second lap to remove an ovarian cyst & my tubes & got a diagnosis of Endometriosis. You should be given a course of antibiotics if PID is suspected but push for a kaparoscopy as that is the gold standard for diagnosis.

worriedbear · 17/04/2022 00:31

@Nat6999

I'm on the waiting list for the lap :)
No doctor has ever mentioned pelvic inflammatory, it's all just me wondering if it's likely to be that.

I've had mris and ultrasounds so would these have picked up pid? X

Ask to be referred to a gynacologist under NHS choose & book at your nearest private hospital, I got seen within a month & had my first lap a month later. The NHS pay for everything but you get treated exactly like a private patient.

Working9to5ish · 17/04/2022 02:07

Have you ever had a coil in? I have PID and it was caused by a (very badly inserted) coil. However it was discovered through quite dramatic symptoms (sepsis) so I'm not sure it could be so dormant.

worriedbear · 17/04/2022 09:02

@Working9to5ish

Never had a coil either x
