To have found increasing costs making a positive impact?

Increasing petrol costs - so I’m actively cutting driving and walking so much more than ever

Increasing energy costs - so I don’t think I’ve ever been more aware of lights off, putting on an extra jumper rather than spinning the heating upwards

Increasing food costs - much more mindful with what I’m buying and much more thoughtful with my cooking and eating

Anyone else?

I'm embarrassed for you that you though IT appropriate to post thing kind of shit OP.

How stupid are you? Anything with betting in the name is never a good idea. Do you know who always wins at betting? The house wins that's who.[/quote]
Matched betting is when you take advantage of free promotional bets from gambling houses and then place equal bets on other outcomes elsewhere. Done properly, it's true that you can't lose.

However, gambling houses have been restricting their free bets for just this reason for a long time. It's not as profitable as it used to be and it can get complex, though I guess there are apps and so on to help.

@Schmz

Apologies for my tone deaf comment - Hearing issues should not be used as a derogatory comment - generally sorry about that.
Funniest thing on the Internet today. Was anything really offended? Thanks for making me laugh on a crap day (no offence to poo )
JudgeJ · 16/04/2022 12:46

@PurpleDaisies

This is utterly tone deaf.
Eh? Speak up please.
LowbrowVictoriana · 16/04/2022 12:47

You could have framed this much better, by pointing out that some will now be tightening their belts that didn't before, so that is a positive from a bad situation because of the environmental benefits; or, as a few PPs have said, have asked how others are economising and trying to avoid waste, and added your experiences which could well have been helpful to many posters who were already struggling.

Quite apart from the cringe-worthy "Isn't this a fun, mindfulness experience" message of your post, you've also basically said that until now you DGAF about the environment, and even now your awareness (such as it is) was borne out of necessity.

ZeroCaffeine · 16/04/2022 12:48

Fucking hell. Let them eat cake indeed

AngelaRayner4PM · 16/04/2022 12:48

Oh yes, I forgot about how fun it's going to be feeding my fussy kids food from the food bank. I can't wait. So many opportunities for personal growth.

Trainbear · 16/04/2022 12:49

@Optimisiticcautiouslyso

So is any thread on holidays also tone deaf?
On Mumsnet you are not allowed to be happy, content or have learned anything. There's always someone worse off than you, don't think you have any right to point out positives
  1. It's all boris' fault
  2. It's the males fault
  3. It's the running dog in the manger, fascist capitalist Tories fault.
velvet24 · 16/04/2022 12:49

@purplemunkey

I'm sure it's lovely for you to be able to treat this as a 'mindfulness' experience. I probably would have thought about the impact it has on other people who aren't quite so lucky before posting something so silly.
Yes, unbelievable post.
Tittyfilarious81 · 16/04/2022 12:50

@5128gap

No. What you're describing is another negative. People who have enough money not to be forced into these measures, but decide to play at them, snuggling up in blankets by candle light for the novelty factor, just reinforce their own belief that with enough 'resilience' people are just fine really! They're the same arrogant individuals who rush to give tips on budgeting to people in poverty, because at uni they lived on £20 for a whole week once, so they know it can be done! You're not being some sort of positive Pollyanna, inspiring us all, you're just being offensive.
I agree with this
Hospedia · 16/04/2022 12:51

People are often wary of something that looks to good to be true. But its genuinely a good way to make abit of extra cash.

Ask your own questions, it's not a "scheme" or "scam"

The Asvertising Standards Agency disagrees and its not risk free due to both human error and the gambling site picking up that you're matching betting, something which they are increasingly clamping down on. So when you borrow money from family/friends or sell your belongings for your initial stake, what happens when the gambling website freezes your account for breaking the T&Cs or you mess up and lose the money?

Like a PP said, the house always wins and trying to paint gambling as risk free is both irresponsible and untrue.

Agrudge · 16/04/2022 12:51

@DrSbaitso

It may not be as profitable as it was. I wasnt in it in the good days.

But take bet365. 2 day 3x£5 free bets for nothing. And if your "partner has an account theres another 3x£5 free bets

Irridescantshimmmer · 16/04/2022 12:51

Yeah, I am extremly cautious now with how much electricity and gas I am using that the supplier has reduced my direct debits.

Just put a wash on this morning at 20°C drying on maidens with all my windows open!

I use solar lights at night as well as 1w LED bulbs which saves me a fortune and I preger sogt lighting which works in my favour.

Soffit · 16/04/2022 12:51

This is what happens when people rake up all the bullshit and virtue signaling from memes over several years and try and turn them into a teachable moment for the unenlightened.

TimBoothseyes · 16/04/2022 12:52

Its fool proof said many a gambler as they watched their money disappear along with their family, friends and home.

The £1920 sitting across my accounts would disagree
Hospedia · 16/04/2022 12:54

And for every person with £1920 there'll be a dozen or more with nothing.

feedyourheed · 16/04/2022 12:56

Same boat here OP. Sorry you are getting a hard time. More of a hard time than spending frivolously when people are using food banks.

I totally get where you are coming from and have noticed similar changes in myself. I actively enjoy economising to 'beat the increase' and I feel qualified to say that now as someone who couldn't even afford to buy a weekly shop for many, many years and lived on fried cheap vegetables and walked everywhere through necessity not choice.

Joystir59 · 16/04/2022 12:57

Loud fat fucking tourists are in town for Easter eating crap and leaving wrappers every fucking where. All over the normally pristine beach, all over the pathways and verges in the parks, stuffed in holes in medieval walls, thrown in bushes and trees. No sign they can't afford to feed their great fat loud faces as yet.

Westchesterarms · 16/04/2022 12:58

@Optimisiticcautiouslyso. I'm usually good at turning the heating off from April to October with occasional use during a cold snap. I think in the past I would have put it on but instead we've been using electric blankets. Which use very little electricity. For reasons from my past, I've always liked to have lamps on in rooms but we've been switching these off now.
As we know so much food gets thrown away nationally every year but I am trying to think about what I can use with what but to be honest I've been trying for a while and it's not been because of the recent surge in prices.
I'm trying to amalgamate all my small errands into one day to save petrol. Which is a shame because it stops me going out so much.
Oh, and I've cancelled Sky. At last. Such a waste of money although I loved it.

Must be able to afford it due to all their wins from matched betting... Hmm
