Boring Easter Sunday meal?

Wouldilietoyouisace · 15/04/2022 20:57

My parents are coming to stay with us for two weeks tomorrow. We’ve not had easter together in around four years. I want to make it nice so Dd is doing her Easter hunt in the garden with them (instead of friends as normal)
I’ve done an Easter themed table for the first time in my life 🤣and will make a meal on Easter Sunday for lunch
I’m doing ham with salad, new potatoes, coleslaw, bread rolls, dips and crudités, cheese & crackers etc, so it’s sort of picky bits…ish.
I’ve ordered Easter themed cupcakes from a bakery and will have mini eggs in bowls on the table and a chocolate bunny each.
Is this ok? Or a bit meh? I just didn’t want to do a big cooking thing, but now I’m thinking it’s a bit lacking in effort? I feel like I’ve put all the effort into making the table look nice and not the actual food
Also, I have hot cross buns, would you have these after the meal or should I warm them with butter for breakfast instead? (I did get croissants from the bakery for breakfast too)
I’ve no idea about hot cross buns as it’s the first time I’ve tried them (don’t like them) and never had these growing up 😅

Please don't call it boring. A pig who wanted to live died in pain and fear to provide you with the ham to serve your guests.”

Alternatively, a pig was quite content until it was killed in an humane way that it knew nothing about.
@Blueberrycreampie That’s the thing, it’s just suddenly gone quite warm where we are, so I thought of the cold type lunch
I feel like I’ve had roasts with cauliflower cheese (admittedly I do love it) for months on end
Yes, see your point - very warm here too!

Your lunch sounds fine. There are no rules or regulations. Personally I would only do hot cross buns on the Good Friday. On the Sunday I'd go for boiled eggs for breakfast and a roast leg of lamb or roast turkey for Sunday.

I love hot cross buns and would eat them any time

Simple food, nicely done, it will be fine

I'd suggest roasting the potatoes, rather than boiling them. Stir the potatoes in a bit of oil, then roast for 40 mins at 200 degrees

Or make potato salad if you want an easy option prepared in advance

I don't think pigs have any concept of death and mortality, lol.

@HundredMilesAnHour

I wouldn't be very impressed with the lunch to be honest. Given it's a Sunday, I'd be expecting a proper hot lunch and most likely a roast.
🙄

I’m pretty sure the OPs parents won’t be worrying about that.

Hot cross buns also nice at teatime. (They will grow on you!)

edwinbear · 16/04/2022 13:33

Hot cross buns can be eaten any time! We tend to have them for breakfast, personally. Your lunch also sounds lovely, it’s very warm for a roast, (although we’re having lamb as we only seem to have it at Easter), but honestly, the most important thing is to be together, the food is often secondary to the company and spending time with the people you love.

Concestor · 16/04/2022 13:49

If it's a proper ham could you not serve it hot with hot potatoes then all your cold bits? I think it would feel more special then.

Quincythequince · 16/04/2022 13:54

@Ponoka7

It depends on what your parents eat. Our Easters were like a mini Christmas. It could be anything from chocolate to a full cooked for breakfast. We had a roast, but with the weather being unusually warm it could be a BBQ. It would have been better to ask them and decide together.
WTF? There is absolutely nothing wrong with what the OP has suggested. Goodness me.

Have a lovely day OP - it sounds delicious

Why would you laugh? Pigs are very intelligent and of course they smell and fear death, but keep believing what makes you feel better.
