Flying to Cyprus mid June and my passport runs out October.

Will this be okay?

Three months from the date you plan to leave - www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/cyprus/entry-requirements#:~:text=Your%20passport%20must%20meet%202,check%20the%20'expiry%20date')

Munchyseeds2 · 15/04/2022 18:47

Think you need 6 months so probably not

thenightsky · 15/04/2022 18:51

I'd never risk less than six months.

TrailingZeros · 15/04/2022 19:17

It's not to do with how long you have left anymore as previously you got the remaining months added on if you renewed your passport early. Now you need to look at the date the passport was issued, add on 10 years (which is likely earlier than the official renewal date unless it was your first passport).

"Your passport must meet 2 requirements. It must be:

less than 10 years old on the day you enter (check the ‘date of issue’)
valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave (check the ‘expiry date’)"

www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/cyprus/entry-requirements

Topseyt · 15/04/2022 19:25

I think you generally need 6 months remaining after the date you fly back, though it varies and some places accept 3. Unless I have misunderstood.

I'd look into renewing it now. Express service to be on the safe side.

no it isn't it's 3 months

Posters keep post 6 months, even though the government clearly says 3 months.
Went to Fuertiventura in feb with passport running out in July no problem. I have renewed my passport now for a trip in May and have now lost over 3 months on my passport as new one runs out in March 32.

@help125 you need to look at the issue date and add on 10 years as the expiry date shown may not be the true expiry date (in the past extra months could be added on making it valid for more than 10 years).

Then it needs to be valid for 3 months after the date you leave Cyprus. Be aware some airlines are stating 6 months although I don't know if they can override the rules of the country you are visiting

Crazykatie · 15/04/2022 19:38

Many countries want 6 months, some want 6 months from your first flight - some the return flight needs to be 6 months as well, so play safe aim for 9 months plus, you can meet an awkward official anywhere.

dementedpixie · 15/04/2022 20:04

Most European countries say 3 months

They cant override the rules, but they can stop you boarding the plane - their rules.

It's 3 months for Europe, you will be OK.

I would still get a new one now though.

waits for the 'this is Brexit's fault' comments...... Wink

VeryQuaintIrene · 15/04/2022 20:13

Is it not?
