To be struggling to manage workload from job and little children?

I actually thought my career as a teacher was over a couple of years ago (it wasn’t but I did have an unpleasant incident which knocked my confidence badly) now I have a toddler and a teaching position and I just can’t seem to manage both.

Even going part time doesn’t seem to be the answer as I still have work to do when the toddler is around and I honestly don’t know how to manage it.

Is anyone else in this position and struggling?

I think everyone finds combining work and little kids hard, but it’s not a great idea to quit completely obviously.

Can you say a bit more about what’s hard. Do you have a partner and how do you split the load..

Totally get it. Try to do as much as you can while you are at school.

I have a teacher friend who works 3 days a week but has her toddler in nursery 3.5 days a week so that she has half a day to catch up on things without the toddler

Unfortunately teaching isn't a family friendly job. Could you find something more flexible, less hours? Maybe a HLTA or tuition/support? If you work out pay per hour you may find you are not much worse off. Lots of transferable skills as a teacher.

I'm ft but looked at pt but honestly teaching just doesnt fir with family. Mine are 6 & 8 now we do afterschool club and I work at night too. It's not fun, I live for the holidays!

I have a toddler, a baby, busy job in social Work and completing a full time degree.
I have good childcare 4 days a week, a cleaner and a husband who absolutely pulls his weight.
I wouldn't see leaving my career as an option. You just manage by being really organised.

All of the above plus if you haven't already, join a union.

It's really difficult, OP. I find there are definitely better and worse times as it's particularly hard if there's a period of intense marking etc at work or illness or poor sleep with my toddlers.

I've definitely thought about quitting a lot this year, but ultimately decided that I can and want to keep going. I work 3 days only and that means there are enough evenings to get my work done and actually get time with my partner. I'm also clinging to the idea that it will get better as the DC get older: I'm intending to continue working part time for the foreseeable future.
