To have taken time off work due to miscarriage?

I've just had an email from my employer saying I have breached my contract and acted "extremely unprofessionally."

I had a MC in January. I notified them of when my appointments were - I had to go in for medical management and then had to have an operation a month later.

There was one occasion where I had to go to a&e at short notice and had to take the day off.

A month later the hospital phoned me to let me know they had a cancellation and I could come in the next day. I accepted and let my employer know.

I'm not sure if AIBU? Should I have prioritised work over the appointments? They are annoyed that I didn't give them enough notice, however, I gave them as much notice as I had. I'm not sure what to think.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

Their behaviour is outrageous. I would be seeking agency support and also start job searching.

My colleagues wife had a miscarriage recently. I told him take whatever time he needed & check in with me weekly just so I knew when he was coming back. He only took a week but we would have given him a second one if he needed to be with his wife. We've got that week back in spades already.

Speak to maternityaction.org.uk/advice-line/

They should be able to advise.

What utter bollocks your employer is spewing

I work for a union and would read the riot act at your employer for this one, tbh. Hope that helps.

How on earth is having a miscarriage 'unprofessional' in any way?!

Did it come from HR or from your own manager?

I’m so angry on your behalf! Do you have anything in writing criticising you taking time off? I presume he knows it was a miscarriage and not vague medical issues. Just be warned this is how he acts now, you have an insight into how he’ll act in future. I’m so sorry Flowers
