To think the Govt need to sort the fuel situation ?!

Wingingit15 · 14/04/2022 17:34

We are (I think) over a week now here (SE) of garages having no fuel and everyone driving round and around to try to find any unsuccessfully.
From the papers it looks like this isn’t a national issue but fairly local supply issues caused by the protests. I am totally down with the fact that the panic buying last October needs to be avoided but there is literally no fuel here and I can’t seem to see much being done.
Why is nothing being done to sort this ?!

Had to drive quite a way yesterday for some fuel. Not sure why more isn't being said about it, maybe they don't want people to panic buy?

Cupcakegirl13 · 14/04/2022 17:59

Totally agree ! It’s awful where we are and no one is saying anything about it.

VerbenaGirl · 14/04/2022 17:59

Unfortunately the government couldn’t sort out a piss up in a brewery though.

MintJulia · 14/04/2022 17:59

We had that issue last weekend, but fully stocked now. I think people have been panic buying again.

The Easter holidays may help - no commuting for a few days.

araiwa · 14/04/2022 18:21

It's all privatised. The government can't do shit. Same with trains, buses, electric, gas, water. We sold it all and now we're paying the price

Yep. Thank Thatcher (if they dug her up and stuck a rosette on her, most MNers would still vote for her)
Wingingit15 · 14/04/2022 18:37

We’ve had no let up and it’s completely hampered Easter activities. I don’t understand why it’s only SE and the free flow can’t be diverted so everyone is a little short rather than people here being totally
Out

I think it is localised. I have had no trouble getting fuel where we live (Yorkshire)

Barkingmadhouse · 14/04/2022 18:42

North east here and we have had issues getting Diesel - petrol always seems available though

Shitzngiggles · 14/04/2022 18:44

I was in the West Country yesterday, I live in the SE, I managed to get some diesel there. I asked the cashier if they had been having supply problems, she said they had. So don't think it is just the SE but maybe its not as bad in other areas.

Wingingit15 · 14/04/2022 18:48

Our diesel (particularly but also about 75% time petrol) pumps have been dry for over a week, it’s not just a shortage, it’s completely crippling and I genuinely don’t understand why the press isn’t reporting it

OP posts:
Burnt0utMum · 14/04/2022 18:51

I haven't noticed a shortage here but maybe that's because I've been avoiding the petrol station as long as possible as I can't afford the crazy prices

TheFlis12345 · 14/04/2022 18:52

I am in the SE and the only issue here have been when people stir things up on the local Facebook pages. We filled up in the week without even having to queue.

elbea · 14/04/2022 18:54

I don’t know what news you’ve been watching… the protests by ‘Just Stop Oil’ have been covered extensively on the news. They are blocking fuel depots so it can’t be delivered.

I know it’s been vaguely mentioned but it’s not headlines by any means. Feel like we here have been completely forgotten - self employed people Can’t work

Definitely a problem in the SE. My DD is home from uni and we went to three petrol station as she was very low on petrol and all were closed. Thankfully I have 1/2 tank in my car to get to work. Hopefully the situation eases soon.

majorquimby · 14/04/2022 19:48

S Wales here and there is def an issue our local supermarket stations hardly ever seem to have any diesel the last few weeks. There's no qs or panic buying but they seem to be out most of the time. I'm topping up as and when it's available.

elbea · 14/04/2022 20:37

The protestors have dug tunnels underneath the fuel depots and won’t come out in Essex, it will be why the South East is experiencing more shortages. I’d prefer if the police went and dragged them out of the tunnels but they sadly aren’t allowed. Protestors shouldn’t be able to disrupt normal people’s lives in such ways.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 14/04/2022 20:40

"I don’t know what news you’ve been watching… the protests by ‘Just Stop Oil’ have been covered extensively on the news."

I must say I haven't seen this on the news (nor noticed any problems with petrol shortages tbf).

Stellaris22 · 14/04/2022 20:44

East Anglia here and our car is diesel.

I'm furious that the government is refusing to listen to or work with the protestors. We are affected but I still agree with the heroic work protestors are doing.

The protestors are not to blame. The government are for not acting and continuing to work in a business as usual way. It saddens me to see anger directed at the protestors when all they are doing is highlighting an important issue.

The protesters are to blame for the lack of petrol and diesel because they are blocking the refineries. They are certainly not heroic
BangingOn · 14/04/2022 20:53

Problems in the Midlands too, the protestors have been at Kingsbury depot for a while.

Stellaris22 · 14/04/2022 20:57

If the government actually listened to and worked with the protestors they'd stop.

The government are failing to act and are to blame for continuing to invest in new oil. Directing anger to protestors is easier than understanding why they are doing this.

deviantant · 14/04/2022 20:58

Definitely problems in the Midlands, even the "expensive" petrol station that everyone avoids is out of diesel. We are only about five miles from Kingsbury which may be why there's panic buying seemingly everywhere locally.

Zazdar · 14/04/2022 20:58

I have driven 175 miles today and bought both petrol and diesel without any problems.
