Bearing in mind fuel prices should hit everything. What prices surprise you?
Flights are still cheap considering how much it costs to run a car. Still get flights for £30 to Europe.
Wine. My favourite hadn’t changed price at all. I still see the same wines wines available on the same offers.
Basic veg like potatoes (4 baking spuds 39p) carrots down to 19p but usually 40p, onions etc.

I can see it will go up eventually but interesting what hasn’t.
@Tryingtokeepgoing that's a very useful breakdown / analysis thank you. It's really made me think. I happen to have a few kilo bags of rice in my store cupboard and I've realised I've probably gotten used to the convenience now of the pouches (I'm disabled) However, I shall now be getting pitched pouches from Aldi as I've just checked and they are 35p. So that makes it a bit more comparable.

Now, I just need to track down the mythical MN everlasting chicken as that surely has to be the best money saver ever! Smile
That’s okay! When cooking for one it’s probably marginal, and I can see the attraction of pouches from a portion control and reducing waste perspective - I struggle to get the portions of rice and pasta correct since my husband died. But when cooking for a decent number of people pouches are a lot more expensive as far as I can see. As for the mythical chicken…who knows Grin

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 17/04/2022 14:31

My yoga teacher hasn’t put up prices in ten years

mariepopp · 17/04/2022 16:51
@RancidOldHag we just paid £1000 for a washer dryer and £1100 for a new fridge! to be fair this is the first time we are replacing our white goods as we inherited our current white goods from the seller. But it seems like an awful lot to me.

We just wanted something with energy efficiency A rating.
The energy ratings all changed last year so unless you have taken that into account it's not a fair comparison. What was A++ last year is now an E rating. So the chances are you bought top of the range stuff, hence the price. A grand has long been the price for those sort of white goods

@Tryingtokeepgoing I just want to say that I hope you're ok and sorry to hear about your husband. I don't know how long it's been since he died, but I'm sending hugs and hoping you're having a nice Easter weekend. Much love to you. #teamriceforone Daffodil

Asda smart price chicken instant noodles (absolutely no difference to Bachelors)....32p (in my local anyway!!!)

WordtoYoMumma · 28/02/2023 21:33

Iceland still sell £1 pizzas 😀

My water bill has gone down!

ladygindiva · 28/02/2023 21:36

I was just thinking the same about wine. One of the few items not to have gone up in price , alongside sanitary towels.

DashboardConfessional · 28/02/2023 21:40

Disagree on ready meals; at least on the ones that aren't 89p mash, mince, and peas ones. Sainsbury's special curries are £4.50 up from £3.50, fresh sourdough pizzas are £4.75 up from about £3.75 and all the Indian sides are about £3 now.

Agree on wine/beer/spirits. Haven't noticed teabags either as Yorkshire is always on offer.

FourTeaFallOut · 28/02/2023 21:43

Dove gluten free bread flour. It's held steady at £1.70 in Tesco for years.

lightisnotwhite · 28/02/2023 22:53

Wow this was my thread from last Spring! It’s quite interesting. My favourite very cheap wine STILL hasn’t gone up (£3.39) I think my second favourite green label prices so from Waitrose did go up. It’s still periodically on offer but £7.99 not £7.49.

I think the cheapest versions of things are still pretty cheap ie baked beans and tinned tomatoes are still under 30p.

Whats changed since then is that prices seem to be moving up quicker. Literally every month. Dove Gluten free flour sadly up to £2 now. Fuel has gone down though.

Car insurance down by £20, Asda micro porridge in satchets still 79p for the box. some cleaning items from poundland, still £1.

JMSA · 28/02/2023 23:08

Supermarket custard creams are still unbelievably cheap! Generally no more than 50p for a big packet.

lightisnotwhite · 25/03/2023 07:15

I’m adding hot cross buns. Well Tesco ones. 99p for six, two packs for £1.30. Freshly made too.
M&S are obviously pretty pricey but I’d struggle to make buns at Tesco prices given the cost of basic ingredients.

I was using one of those petrol pumps where you can select it to stop at a specific value and I was pleasantly surprised that I can still get £10 of petrol for £10!
🙂

lightisnotwhite · 25/03/2023 07:30

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles 😁

My mistake - freshly baked hot cross buns are 4 for 99p ( 2 for £1.30) which I guess is smaller than last year. But you can still buy their own not made on the premises packets of 6 for 99p
