To hope Newcastle to Bristol flight will be on time tomorrow?

Sorry, posting in here for traffic.
Ds is on an Easyjet flight early tomorrow from Newcastle to Bristol.

We are picking him up from the airport and driving 3 hours to my DM's burial.

A small delay will be fine but I am really panicking that the flight might be severely delayed or cancelled.

For various reasons he wasn't able to get an earlier flight. I know most of the major problems are at Manchester, but does anyone know how likely we are to have problems with this flight?

I'm getting increasingly worried.

I’m very sorry about your loss. And I have no idea about the situation with the planes, but I do have some ideas for coping.

Since this feels so stressful on top of what you’re dealing with, can you make a contingency plan? I know Bristol airport is well out of the city but there are frequent buses (and taxis) available into town, so if the plane is late, could he have a plan to get himself into the city and onto a train stopping close to where you need to be? Then the rest of you could carry on and meet him there?

ApolloandDaphne · 14/04/2022 08:24

No-one can tell you that. It is completely out of your hands and it is pointless worrying about it (easier said than done, I know). If he makes it then well and good, if he doesn't you go without him.

Ifailed · 14/04/2022 08:26

there are direct trains from Newcastle to Bristol?

CeeceeBloomingdale · 14/04/2022 08:27

Sorry for your loss. Newcastle airport was the quietest I've ever seen it last time I flew (6 weeks ago). I work locally in travel and haven't heard of any issues with the airport or airline.

Witchcraftandhokum · 14/04/2022 08:28

Hi. I flew to London from Newcastle yesterday. There were no cancellations.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 14/04/2022 08:30

There's no current issues with check in/security/luggage etc at Newcastle. The only delay may come from weather/complete fluke situations which can't be predicted.

I think you need, as the poster above said, a plan. You will need to leave Bristol Airport by X time to drive to the burial - whether ds is there or not.

notimagain · 14/04/2022 08:33

I don't think there's any way of knowing with any certainty at this stage TBH, but I'll offer the following:

If the flight in question is the one that departs Newcastle at 0835 then the good news is it appears (by looking at Easyjet website's Flight Status page www.easyjet.com/en/flight-tracker) that it's a service that seems to have been running OK recently. Easyjet don't appear to have been cancelling/combining it with later flights...so fingers crossed that continues and that also there isn't a sudden outbreak of Covid amongst Easyjet's crews...

Hope it works out OK for you.

Panickingaboutflight · 14/04/2022 08:35

Thank you for your ideas. We have looked at trains but that would only work if the flight is cancelled with enough notice for him to get on the 5 am Newcastle train.

It wouldn't be possible to get a train from Bristol to the location unfortunately.

If the flight is late we will just have to wait for him (which would be ok for up to a couple of hours). It just means the other atendees will be waiting for us to arrive.

Any more than that or a late cancellation means he wont be able to come.

I know worrying isn't helpful, but he is already struggling with the loss and is the only family member not local so has been a bit out of the loop since she died so l think he really needs tomorrow for acceptance and closure.

But que sera sera l suppose, as you say, it's out of our hands.

Thanks for those later posts about the flight/airport situation.

It does make me feel a bit better that there havn"t been too many issues so far.

Can he get on a train to Bristol today?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 14/04/2022 08:40

Does he drive? If he happens to run late, could he hire a car to drive and meet you there?

NotTheOW · 14/04/2022 08:40

Yes I agree with this. Have a plan for the worst case scenario, then you won't be worrying about what ifs.

@NotTheOW

Can he get on a train to Bristol today?
Okay, if there’s no possibility of him getting there independently, then you should do what this poster suggests and have him on the move today.
notanothertakeaway · 14/04/2022 08:44

Would it help to pay for fast track security, to avoid queuing? Also, if he only has hand luggage, he'll be quicker getting through

My sister recently flew from Edinburgh, no difficulty at all. The flight issues do seem to be centred on certain airports

Panickingaboutflight · 14/04/2022 12:40

Hi all

Thanks for your responses.

He can't leave today, and he doesnt drive sadly.

I'm hoping that baring the unexpected problems that can of course befall any public transport, that we should be ok.

I think its the reports ciming out of Manchester and Gatwick that really freaked me out.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 14/04/2022 13:36

Local news is saying it’s taking on average 6 minutes to get through security and they are interviewing travellers at Newcastle airport today who have said they are pleasantly surprised with how quick they got through.

yellowsuninthesky · 14/04/2022 14:25

I think it will be ok. You can never be sure there won't be a problem with a plane or similar but weather forecast is fine and there won't be border issues or anything like that. I also assume he will only have hand luggage so no hanging around for hold baggage, and two hours is quite a lot of leeway. Even if the plane is delayed an hour, it won't be a problem.

yellowsuninthesky · 14/04/2022 14:28

I'm also curious about a location which is 3 hours from Bristol airport, but not nearer to Exeter, Cardiff or Southampton (or Bournemouth/Newquay) airports (though I don't know off the top of my head where you can fly to from Newcastle).

Panickingaboutflight · 14/04/2022 19:16

Location is West Wales, but we are close to bristol airport and no suitable flights to Cardiff.
