Black Henna Nightmare

I’m currently away with the family now and my little girl age 7 had a henna done last night. We’ve done this before but with real henna. Not long after the tattoo was finished on her hand i realised it was very different to the other henna we’ve had in the past.
I did some googling and it looks like it’s Black henna which is illegal and extremely dangerous. I’m beside myself with worry. I can’t even tell my dh. I’m horrified at the stupid mistake on my poor daughter.
Does anyone have any advice or experience with black henna??
@mumosa she'd have to be careful with hair dye anyway - any reputable hair colourist would do a patch test every six months.

I can see why you are doing it, but you're overreacting. If she hasn't had a reaction now, she won't have one. Try to relax and you'll know better for future.
My friends son did a patch test and still reacted

May well just be an extreme case though

Thanks everyone for your support and sharing experiences it’s been so helpful. It’s keeping me sane.
It’s the delayed reaction which is worrying me, the blisters and redness around 8 days afterwards. I’m not gonna to read anymore on google now, i’ve terrified myself enough. switswooo- definitely not real henna, it’s like black sharpie on her skin that won’t budge. When it was applied it looked like henna just a little darker, but once we removed it (within an hour) it was black and bold unlike real henna

I completely understand what you are feeling. My daughter had a reaction 2 weeks afterwards. My key advice is ti try and get it off as soon as you can. A flannel and hot water, baby oil, baby wipes- whatever you can. Flannel worked well for us but we only did it when the reaction started. Use any cream for dry skin (eczema style) on the area. You will be fine. My daughter was fine but it was really scary once the reaction took hold. Good luck.

She's highly unlikely to react on a first exposure. However, any further use of black henna or hair dye etc could result in a serious reaction so she should be very careful in the future.

Hi, was your daughter ok? We’ve done the same thing on holiday and I can’t sleep with worry 😫

If you're worried maybe seek medical advice? This thread dates back to April 2022.

she was absolutely fine, we did use soap and flannel to remove as much as possible. but no after effects.
really hope your little one is ok.
