Where to go in Scotland to get emergency antibiotics?

Posting for I'm away on holiday in Scotland west coast. My fanny abscess has made a comeback. I previously had antibiotics 6 weeks ago and it shrunk down. It's come back I'm in a lot of pain and it's approaching the Easter weekend. My online gp service cant send electronic prescriptions to pharmacy in scotland. Are there walk in centres in Scotland ? I've googled and can't find any . I'm either going home today to try and get an appointment for tomorrow or stuck in pain until tuesday. Such a shame as I'm visiting my family.

Have you tried going to a pharmacy as a walk in?

Tasteslikeregret · 13/04/2022 13:49

Just register as a temporary resident at the surgery your family use and ask for an appointment with a prescribing nurse.

We get temporary residents all the time at the surgery I work at who are visiting family or on holiday in the area.

Phone local gp surgery and ask if they can help you.

Childof70s · 13/04/2022 13:50

If you ring nhs 24 they will advise you where nearest gp out of hours or emergency centre is - you can register with any gp as a visitor also, have done in past when staying at my parents for kids being ill.

Nhs 24 or 111.

Phone 111, which is the NHS Scotl;and helpline.

If you're on the islands or in a rural area, contact nearest DR surgery ;' they are well used to handing emergency care for tourists away from home.
Or, go to any pharmacy and ask the pharmacist for emergency supply.

I have an abscess too. I used an online GP covered by my health insurance, you would probably have to pay but in your circumstances, I probably would. They issue an e prescription so you can get antibiotics at your local pharmacy

desiringonlychild2022 · 13/04/2022 14:22

This is the service I used doctorcareanywhere.com/axamembership

Signed up on Saturday, got an appointment on a Sunday morning.

My DD was ill when we visited my parents in Scotland. My mum just rang her GP surgery and we were able to temporarily register there as visitors (had to fill in a form) and got seen super fast. The surgery didn’t seem remotely surprised about it

DeathMetalMum · 13/04/2022 14:25

Will your GP fax or email a prescription to the nearest pharmacy to where you are now? Work in Wales where there is no electronic prescriptions and this is how we would get around this.

You need to phone nhs24 on 111 and say your a temporary resident. They can’t do anything for you until 6pm (unless it’s a public holiday) so wait until then as you’ve probably got no hope of getting in with a local GP.

Username917778 · 13/04/2022 14:26

You need to go to the closest GP and temporarily register. They will give you a prescription and you can take that to the pharmacy. Bit ott to drive home.

As previous posters have said, after hours phone 111 if in Scotland and explain, or else phone nearest GP surgery. In my experience, there are not the long queues described by posters further south. There are also walk-in centres in big cities, eg Glasgow, listed on Google.
Most GP surgeries are closed this Friday and next Monday, but many -if remote - will have emergency services in place and 111 will direct you there.
We live - full time - in a remote part of Scotland but were still seen on an Easter Monday by emergency people at local GP's after phoning 111.
