To have reported this driver

Today I was driving with young children in the car when another car was at the side of me. The lane he was in was for right turn only. Instead of turning right though this man decided to try and speed up then pull in front of me as he was in the wrong lane. It's a common place that people choose to cut others up. I was in a line of moving traffic and didn't change my speed. I actually assumed he was turning. He then angrily beeped his horn and tailgated me the entire journey through town. Eventually on the next dual carriageway he overtook me and mouthed abuse as he went past. My teen who was sat in the front took a pic and made it look like he was recording him. The man slowed right down then and turned off into a big car sales place. He had the numberplate hanging on the front windscreen in red. So I assume it was a car he was picking up and he was working for the company at the time of his delightful behaviour. I was very tempted to follow him in and tell someone but I didn't. Should I have done?!

If you knew he was in the wrong lane why didn't you just let him into the right one? Yes it's annoying, yes people should know where they need to be (and it sounds like he was local) but really, have you never been in the wrong lane?

However, he was a tw*t for his subsequent behaviour. Don't report it though, just let it go. If we reported all the stupid drivers on the roads, we'd never be doing anything else.

HangOnToYourself · 12/04/2022 16:29

His reaction was out of order but just so I'm clear...when you realised he was trying to move across and was in the wrong lane did you deliberately not let him in? If so thats pretty shitty

yellowsuninthesky · 12/04/2022 16:29

Oh sorry I saw you said you assumed he was turning.

As annoying as it is - I have seen people claim that those arrows marked are advisory only.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 12/04/2022 17:03

I do sympathise though - there do seem to be a lot of bellends around at the moment.
Sadly I doubt reporting to anyone would help - no-one seems to care.

The red plate is a trade plate. If you know who he works for E.g I’ve reported to my local Ford dealer the drivers racing between the compound and dealership, report it to them. But it could be a single sole trader, in which case you’ll be reporting it to him.
I probably wouldn’t bother the police or DVLA with it though.

Lockheart · 12/04/2022 17:12

If he was in the right hand lane in the roundabout he should have gone around again, not caused other drivers to stop or slow to let him in. That's the beauty of roundabouts.

It was his driving that was dangerous and subsequently aggressive.

If you have any dashcam footage you could give it to the police but they're not likely to be able to do much on the basis of one photo (if your teen took one).

Move on with your life...

Without video footage the police can't do anything.

I doubt the dealership will care so from that perspective I wouldn't waste my time or energy reporting him.

However, I am very much in favour of reporting to the police with evidence. Our police force has a specific campaign around this and I've submitted quite a few dangerous driving examples to them. They probably only get a fine/slap on the wrist but if it stops them purposefully running red lights etc then it's worth it.

Life's too short...and ya know...Yada yada yada...ignore ignore ignore...

Ripriderockit · 12/04/2022 17:30

Oh I didn't mean the police just meant the company who he may work for.
It wasn't a roundabout. It was 2 lanes with traffic lights. The left lane always busy as it goes into town centre, the right lane not so, as it's to turn off. There was nothing behind me, I wasn't expecting him to do what he did as he could have quite easily slowed down and gone behind me. Instead he chose to keep going. When he was at the side of me that's why I thought he must be turning.

He could be test driving a car rather than working for them.
When we were test driving they put those numberplate on the cars we took out.
