Everyone seems overworked underpaid undervalued and often even attacked.

Are there any decent easy jobs now?

If become the prime minister you get to celebrate covid restrictions with a massive party

Not a bad perk of the job

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 11/04/2022 07:25

Yeah, not likely to be PM. Just wondering if anyone has a decent fair job that’s not too draining, and what it is.

I hear you OP! However a bad manager or a good manager can make the same work seem very different, so yes I think there are good jobs - it is a question of finding the right team.

I am currently job hunting!

Santaslittlemelter · 11/04/2022 07:29

I love mine and am well paid for it. I work in tech.

ChiselandBits · 11/04/2022 07:31

I'm a teacher in a private school. Small classes, long holidays, lovely setting and great line manager. I know teaching as a whole has huge issues and I've worked in other schools in the past where workload and kids' behaviour made it a totally different job but I love the situation I'm in now.

MissChanandlerBong80 · 11/04/2022 07:32

Whilst there are some exceptions I think jobs tend to fall into one of three categories:

 • Easy but badly paid
 • Difficult and stressful and badly paid
 • Difficult and stressful and well paid
Stabbitystabstab · 11/04/2022 07:33

I love my job but unfortunately the pay is awful.
I'll probably have to leave and do something soul destroying if living costs hike any more Sad

HAF1119 · 11/04/2022 07:35

I have a lovely job thanks to a lovely and supportive manager, they give thanks when tasks are complete, are flexible when needed (as am I), understands that if they treat me with respect I'm more likely to go out of my way, and have been brilliant recently when have had issues with pox, Covid and a bad chest infection within the past 3 months to contend with and have accepted changes in hours/a short period of sick leave and some unpaid emergency parental leave

I can't say enough how much their support helps keep stressful times from becoming more stressful and how greatful I am for that

It is probably the manager which makes it, i did management before and someone came for an interview and said 'I always decide on a company based on how tired the team look and how engaged and this team looks really happy and seem to really like you'

It stayed with me and I would do that too now (haven't had to, am at same company in different role) I'd really value 'meeting the team' and seeing if they're all just busy not able to really say hello, or if they seem really engaged as soon as you and the manager walk in, have a possible tea on the go, and generally just seem happy

The situation we have had recently has been hard and I know that some managers would have gotten really frustrated and possibly started an 'absense process' though it has been outside of my control (primarily because care for child has been needed with contagious illnesses I couldn't use childcare for) and that really would have added to stress during times of sleepless nights

Search for the good ones, they exist, then be the perfect employee for that if you find it so they value you always and you can enjoy it!

I'd love to drive a tipper truck!

I love my job but I work for myself.

CurlyBurley · 11/04/2022 07:52

Used to love my job but now have a new manager and she is awful. Will be looking for a new job soon I think. I work in early years which is very underpaid for all the responsibility it brings, but I do enjoy working with young children.

Allergictoironing · 11/04/2022 07:59

I work for a district council, and I love my job. This is partly due to the work, but to a large degree also down to both the culture there which is led from the top, and my manager who is amazing.

Yes pay could be better, but I don't expect a fortune for a comparatively low responsibility role and my salary does come out of the public purse one way or another. When this current role comes to an end, I'll be trying to get another job in the same place.

DogsAndGin · 11/04/2022 08:00

Primary school teacher - long hols, lovely big classroom, hilarious kids, no other adults telling me what to do most of the day Grin

curlii103 · 11/04/2022 08:02

Depends what your priorities are! I think there are lots of jobs that look lovely but they also look low paid!

Amelion · 11/04/2022 08:04

I enjoy my job - it’s challenging and engaging but it’s not really stressful.

It’s in the public sector.

We don’t do really long hours and when we need to work the odd long day, because we’re on flexi time we can take accrue time off. The team I work with is great. We get lots of leave (32.5 days plus bank hols and up to 26 days flexi). I get paid well (70k). Only have to do one day in the office and the rest can be from home. And there’s a good pension (civil service pension).

It’s the manager that makes it, I’m in a job and my manager is awful ! Constantly micro managing ...

ScarlettSunset · 11/04/2022 08:09

Having a great manager makes a huge amount of difference to how a job feels. I've had jobs that were great but then the manager changed and they would become a soul destroying nightmare due to bullying etc.
I would then put up with them for far too long as I needed the money though. Sadly, even a fantastic manager can't make a good job out of a badly paid one that doesn't pay enough to cover the bills.

WorryMcGee · 11/04/2022 08:12

I think your manager and the people you work with have more of an influence over how you feel at work than the job itself sometimes. My job doesn’t exactly fill me with joy and I do occasionally feel overwhelmed when it gets busy - but - I am paid well, I’m treated like an adult and trusted to get my work done, and I absolutely love my manager.

Evvyjb · 11/04/2022 08:14

@amelion what do you do?!? I'm in!

HopeToSeeYouThere · 11/04/2022 08:21

I absolutely love my job and (I think) it's well paid. Flexible, term time only.

I work with traumatised children so you need a lot of resilience and a supportive team around you.

It's a balance isn't it? My manager is at the opposite end of the scale so I really hardly hear from them - and I don't like that either.
@amelion what do you do?!? I'm in!
@Evvyjb I work in the civil service - for an arms length body in a technical specialist type role. I’ve had similar roles in ALBs before and always been happy in my jobs.

MedSchoolRat · 11/04/2022 08:31

I work in university, public health research

Hand on heart, I am under-worked and possibly over-valued. I've had criticism from Jo Public about some research findings, but we've managed to engage constructively, civilly. Never felt attacked.

Also flexible. Some of my seniors (I work on lots of projects) are hands off, some lean towards micro-managing. The one who I was told is a bully -- we got along well, actually. Some tedium, but try to show me a job with no tedium...
