Best antiemitic medication to keep antibiotics down??

I have to take antibiotics to treat a chronic UTI. I'm allergic to a couple so this has to work. But I'm feeling very sick. What is the best antiemitic that actually works?

For me, cyclizine (need a prescription)

Mines ondansatro but you'll find GPS often have to prescribe in a certain order (mainly due to cost as they'll be bulk contract orders). It really is trial and error as what works for one may not work for another.

Ondansetron (Zofran) usually works well without making you sleepy or "loopy".

Ondansetron is the only thing that really works for me - but GP’s are often restricted from giving it out - so I have to go privately but WELL worth it. I pay majority for the cost of appointment (£75) but then the medication itself is actually cheaper than an NHS prescription! (Around £5-6 for 30 tablets) x

You can get others - metoclopramide, prochloparzine, and cyclizine (I’m aware the spellings are probably all wrong 😂) but they do have side effects. Cyclizine makes me so dizzy I actually feel more sick than before and the other 2 comes with drowsiness and some people do have serious side effects to do with muscle movements x

I had a serious reaction to metroclopranide but take Ondansetron daily to keep other meds down, none of the others worked

Thank you for this.

Little update
Thanks to your advice, I got ondansetron which worked well until last night. Suddenly got every side effect in the book. Auditory and visual hallucinations, twitching eye movements, the runs, severe agitation, muscle spasm in the throat and then a full blown migraine this morning.

I can't take cyclizine because I went round the bend after taking it before. It caused agitation to the extent I couldn't see straight.

Metaclopromide is what's left and I don't know how to face it, to be honest. Or the trimethoprim. I'm running out of antibiotics to try very quickly and really starting to think about trying to get cephalexin intravenously. I don't know if that's possible.

It's never ending and hard not to feel at the end of myself.

Are you sure it was the Ondansetron causing that? Because I take Ondansetron regularly (4-5 a week for well over a year) and I’ve never heard of anyone suffering from those side effects before… they tend to be associated with other types of anti sickness (metoclopramide) are you sure it wasn’t something else causing it if you’re on different meds? X

Light dose marijuana ✌️

@justamumseekingadvice

I'm glad it works for you. They're all on the side effect list. The ondansetron suddenly stopped working when the symptoms came on (nausea actually got worse) and are passing off now it's been about 22 hours since taking one.

I agree that some of those symptoms seem more likely to happen with the metroclopromide which fills me with despair as what are the chances I'll be able to tolerate it. I don't feel like seeing/hearing anything else that isn't there.
