Parking Ticket

So I got a parking ticket at a local country park.

It's one of those that came through the post weeks after the event, I had been to the park with DS and paid for parking via a App.

So I was surprised when this ticket arrived, it's £70 or £40 if paid within 2 weeks.

Upon attempting to log an appeal I noticed that I had in fact but the wrong parking zone into the App.

My DP laughed and said oh well you've lost that one already just give it up and pay the fine which has annoyed me.

AIBU to think I have shown intent in buying a ticket and have made a genuine mistake in putting the wrong zone and I have a right to appeal or should I just swallow it and pay the fine like my partner thinks.

I'd kick myself, but pay up and be extra careful in future.

LetMeTryAgain · 09/04/2022 09:16

I did this recently. I appealed, showed that I had indeed paid but had inadvertently put the wrong car park while paying with the app.

The ticket was cancelled and I was advised to make sure I didn’t do it again as they might not apple the appeal on a second occasion.

LetMeTryAgain · 09/04/2022 09:17
  • allow, not apple!
Nidan2Sandan · 09/04/2022 09:17

I've tried this before, the council refused to remove the ticket. Angry it cost me £35 on top of the £6 I'd paid to park.

Keeponmoving2213 · 09/04/2022 09:19

Is it from the council or a private company?

Blossomandbee · 09/04/2022 09:20

Everyone has a right to appeal, it's worth a try. Enclose a copy of your ticket on the appeal and explain what happened. On something like this it will depend on the discretion of who deals with the appeal as to whether they accept it or not. The window to pay the lower amount should be frozen while it's processed too.

stressingmum · 09/04/2022 09:25

It's a council country park but the ticket has arrived from a private company.

It's worth a go. I had a ticket overturned when I selected the wrong car on my parking app a few years ago. The worst that can happen is they reject your appeal and you have to pay the fine anyway.

6demandingchildren · 09/04/2022 09:59

Appeal as your car can't be in 2 places at the same time.

UmbilicusProfundus · 09/04/2022 10:03

Yes appeal, I have also selected my old car on an app and won my appeal.

FlippityFlippityFlop · 09/04/2022 10:09

I did this recently. Area that I paid for actually cost more than where I was parked. Council issues parking ticket. I appealed - was told that they could see I had made a genuine mistake but that I didn't have a ticket for that street so the parking fine stood. Cost me £65 Angry

ExplodingElephants · 09/04/2022 10:51

Definitely appeal. We’re currently appealing one at the moment. DH pulled into a car park and was unable to pay. He called RinGo 3 times and there was no answer plus two of their own machines weren’t working either with contactless or putting his card in the machine. He was in the carpark 23 minutes and they want £100!! Another couple in the carpark at the same time were having the exact same issue as him. No way are we paying. This is for a private car park company too aka a load of cowboys trying it on.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 09/04/2022 11:10

A country park near us has gone to Ringo (app only, no cash or contactless) - I can't get a signal there!

balalake · 09/04/2022 11:21

Appeal, worth a try. If you succeed then a bonus.

BooksAndHooks · 09/04/2022 11:23

Appeal the new rules around tickets have provision for people making keying errors when paying as well as a ten min grace period.

Thesefeetaremadeforwalking · 09/04/2022 11:23

Is the idea of saving the cost of fine really worth the hassle of taking the time to go to court and risk losing?

mnnewbie111 · 09/04/2022 11:24

I've done this and they accepted the appeal as a gesture of goodwill but didn't have to

They put on hold if appeal, it wouldn't come to that so it's always worth the 5 min effort to appeal
Eyesofdisarray · 09/04/2022 11:32

It's not a fine it's a parking charge. These companies rely on people paying up for a quiet life or can't be doing with hassle. You can appeal; costs you nothing.
Plenty of advice on the Martin Lewis website, pepipoo (I know, funny name)
I think they have 2 weeks to inform you of charge so if its outside that, tell them; but this might have changed so do check
Pepipoo is a fab site

Eyesofdisarray · 09/04/2022 11:33

There are many steps before court - if it happens so don't let that put you off

JustDanceAddict · 09/04/2022 11:34

Years ago when we still had tickets to display mine slipped down behind the dash. I appealed it and got off.
Can you prove you intended to pay - I think you have a good case.

SherbetDips · 09/04/2022 11:43

It’s worth a try, I scratched off the wrong number on a visitors permit. I questioned the fine and they cancelled it.

Imworkingonit · 09/04/2022 11:44

I did this and appealed. They waived the charge as a goodwill gesture but told me not to do it again as next time I would have to pay.

It was as easy as filling out an online form and the ticket is frozen until the decision is made.

Definitely worth a few minutes of your time to do this.

LaNozzeDiFigaro · 09/04/2022 11:44

I did this a while back. Paid for less hours than we had been there due to a very confusing sign.

Always appeal just in case but don't expect much.

Don't listen to anyone who says you don't have to pay. I used to work alongside fleet admin in fleet management. Sometimes it works out but for those that don't, it's awful and not worth the small fine they are avoiding.
