My mum thinks 32 is ‘too old’ to get a piercing

I told my mum in passing that I’m thinking about getting a nose piercing and she said that it’s too young a look and that I should be dressing more sophisticated now I’m in my 30s! I’m 33 this year.

AIBU to think this is totally unreasonable of her to think this?

I got my nipples done at 39. They can only be seen on a cold day haha 😄 but love them. Do it, never too old.

That “knee deep in life” recently got her nose and lip done and she looks fab. She’s nearing 40 I believe (38?). Once I have my baby I really want to get more ear piercings. I’m 35

She is allowed her opinion just as you are yours. That’s what she thinks…you think differently. It’s fine. Get the piercing.

I disagree with that, because the opinion as she has expressed it is ageist and unnecessarily restrictive. There's no such thing as "too old" to do anything you want to do. If anything it's better when you're older, because you'll be more decided about what works for you and less likely to regret a youthful impulse later on.

I don't like piercings or most tattoos (although they don't put me off liking people who have them) and would never want one myself, but I'd go to the barricades for anyone's right to have as many as they please. It's really no-one else's business, not even a mother's, once you pass the age where she's not legally responsible for your choices.

Mum is entitled to her views, you yours. I disagree with your mum's opinion.

I live in Glastonbury. All us over 60s have nose piercings and tattoos.

She can think what she likes.
It's not her nose so it's not her choice.

Does your mum approve of everything else you do?

Because honestly the only person I'd check body modification with is my DH as it's only really his opinion I care much about.

(Same him with me. Rarely would we tell each other not to do something we wanted to - but I have to be honest I'd really not want him to have any sort of facial piercing. Luckily we prefer tattoos but again we tend to help each other plan them so know what and where is happening. Our parents don't factor into the decision making though.)

32 is too old for a mother to be telling her daughter what she is and isn’t allowed to do with her own body!!!

I got four piercings last year and I'm 41 - you're never too old! But actually you are too old to have your mum telling you what to do with your body - so do what makes you happy.

You're not too old for a piercing because the piercing will always be there regardless of your age. I think they're ugly but it's personal taste.

Lol I used to say to all mine they were only allowed a piercing or tattoo when they were 32! They never bothered! Having said that you're an adult do what you want to!

🤣 I must be well ancient then at 35 years old I got my septum done last weekend.
Go for it your not old at all and you get one life so do what makes you happy it's a piercing can be taken out whenever you chose.

I had my snakebite re pierced at 41. Dyed my hair an ungodly colour at 45… my mum hates it all, don’t even get started on the tattoos. My body my life. I’m sick of people telling me I’m too old do do things. The only thing I’m too old for at my age is power rangers 😂
