I cried in front of my new manager

I feel so embarrassed 😔

In the past 14 months I have had 3 different managers. A new one started last week. Every time a new one starts they look at rota's and go through the hours you can/can't work.
I work part time hours due to health reasons (cancer) and this is the third time I have had to explain this to different managers. It just really upset me today I hate talking about it I have a lot of PTSD regarding my diagnosis.
I know I am probably been oversensitive but its just been a tough day 😢

YANBU. So sorry you've been through this each time. You'd think managers would check employee notes so this kind of thing would be known to them already. Totally different situation, but I once had to explain "officially" in a HR meeting why I'd been off for an extended time after a miscarriage and I cried. They already knew the reason, so I'm not sure why I had to say it again.

I hope you are doing well and continue to do so.

Oh OP, I’m sorry you had to go through this. Keeping explaining about the cancer must bring closer to home. When you started to cry I hope the manager was understanding or was the reason you cried that they dragged your reasons for working PT out of you? I hope your recovery goes well.

@Clarinet1

It was dragging it out of me the reason I worked part time, but she was really understanding about it once she knew.

I know how you feel OP, I was diagnosed 3 years ago and feel like I have to drag up my past every time a new manager starts and they query why i have so many hospital appointments.

Totally understandable to become upset explaining your sensitive information.

I opened the thread thinking ywbu but you were not and have nothing to feel guilty or embarrassed about.

I'm sorry you've had a hard time. Flowers

I sympathise OP, I have a hidden disability so have to have “the chat” with every change of manager.

Some workplaces have a kind of “reasonable adjustment passport” that note any long term health condition/disability and associated reasonable adjustment which is handed over from manager to manager and negates the need to have the conversation over and over again. Is this something that your workplace might be interested in implementing?

Very best of luck with your treatment Flowers

That sounds like a great idea.

My first manager never documented any of my reasonable adjustments so I had to re request them with my next manager.
