Weirded out by Jimmy saville even as a young child

Hated watching him. Ran out of the room. To me, as a child he was a creep and he unsettled me .
AIBU .

I wasn't a Saville fan. I found him annoying in exactly the same way as I found Basil Brush annoying. But as a child "creepy" and "sleazy" weren't in my repertoire of life experience and I had no idea that the sort of things he did even existed.

Rolf Harris was a big favourite in our household. My mother adored him, we watched him on television every week, we had an album of his songs and I could probably still sing them all word perfect, and one of my sisters had a toy koala called Coojeebear. We were all genuinely shocked when he turned out to be a bad'un.

Yes, I find myself thinking about this when I read things about him. I remember watching Jim'll fix it as a child and often feeling like there was something about him that wasn't 'right'. Most likely hindsight but it's such a clear recollection. I sometimes wonder how much was known at the time, and if this feeling came from things adults around me said about him.

I hated him too. I didn't understand why people liked him at all, he was repulsive.

There was a cement mixer company called Jim’ll Mix It and I wonder if it had to shut down after the allegations

@Siameasy, yes I remember Jim'll mix it, they eventually dropped Jim and became Mix it.

My brother adored jim'll fix it, so it was always on TV but I found him so creepy and really disliked him. The same with Rolf Harris, my brother loved him but he just gave me the creeps!

I had always thought there was something creepy about him but never thought it was anything like the stuff that came out .

Only ever saw him once on Jim’ll fix it. Didn’t feel one way or another about him. Loads of people always say this about various infamous creeps after the fact it becomes public knowledge that they are creeps. Not saying some people don’t notice beforehand but I’m sceptical of the amount of people that claim to have had any feelings about it from the first moment they saw the person.

I saw him in Leeds train station once, I was with my two tiny children. He literally stood still and stared at us for the longest time. I remember chills running down my spine.

I thought he was a bit weird but the wish granting was really cool. Loved Rolf Harris and Stuart Hall.

A lot of hindsight I reckon.

He was so odd but there was something to him I loved watching that was slightly addictive and compelling. Watching Jim'll Fix It felt like taking sweets from the proverbial stranger. Maybe it's because I grew up as part of the Jimmy Saville generation I'm massively distrustful of people that do tons of "good work." It's such a convenient way of hiding a personality flaw

My mum and nana banned him from the tv, we weren't allowed to watch him. He was creepy as hell

Absolutely and the only reason I never wrote to jim’ll fix it ! Did you not have to sit on his knee nope I thought he looked a right creep. Of course didn’t know the absolute depravity of him. Then as an adult I never got his popularity strangest thing ever ...

My dh christened him the Perv years ago. Something completely off about him. Didn't have a clue about him at the time
