To be annoyed with NatWest switch deal?

I was in a branch today and was told I could switch my current account over and get £150. I didn’t have my debit card for the identity confirmation, and the person told me it was fine, I just needed to do it today.

After getting LO to bed, I had a chance to complete the switch online. Only to learn that the £150 deal had to be completed before 5 pm! I did it at 6 and now have begun the process for a switch. Quite miffed as this wasn’t mentioned anywhere in the branch or on the online form I began earlier today! AIBU to be annoyed with this?

Surely you had to click you approved the Ts&Cs & it was mentioned then?

TinySaltLick · 07/04/2022 19:56

I am sure if you go and speak to the branch they will find a way to honour it otherwise you can just switch elsewhere

RE the t+Cs comment above - it probably was but realistically is it feasible to read every condition at the point of every sign up to a product? Perhaps for insurance, or a mortgage, or a building contract... But not standardised products and services?

Talk to the branch. If they won't honour it switch to first direct next week, they arealso doing £150

Begoniagal7 · 07/04/2022 20:13

Everywhere I looked, it just said must be completed by 7th April. I did scan the Ts&Cs on my mobile and don’t recall seeing the 5 pm deadline but I see now they’ve taken it off of their website.

@Shurl, thanks I’ll look in to the first direct option as well!

Yeah speak to them and see if they will honour it. They probably will. If you feel you should have reasonably been given this information then I would raise a complaint. Banks are very willing to give money out to resolve complaints and I can't see them having much issue with paying you the £150 for being 1 hour out. We give people £25 just for complaining about the call wait time at the bank I work for.
