To be worried about still finding fleas?

I noticed I was getting bites about 2 months ago. We missed a flea treatment for the cats and I have also since found out that frontline, which we had been using, is rubbish.

I have washed everything, hoovered, sprayed indorex, switched to a different treatment from the vet and paid a lot of money to get someone in to spray the house.

They sprayed last Friday and said that because of the life cycle we may continue to see fleas, but that the treatment we have given the cats, combined with the fumigation will get rid of any newly hatched fleas.

I’m just concerned because they didn’t spray every single room in the house, just the bedrooms and stairs, hallway, under the stairs and under the sofas. They said this would be effective.

Today I saw one jump on my son and I found a couple under the table when I swept in the living room. The ones under the table seemed to be dying off. This is the room that the cats stay in at night and the room that they only did the sofas and fireplace in. They said that it was a wooden floor without gaps between boards, and that as the cats were treated and hallway etc done, it would be fine.

I’m just worried this issue will never go and that unless every single one is got rid of, we may end up with more and more.

The pest control people are returning in the next week to lay traps and will respray where necessary. They told us not to hoover or mop any treated areas for 2 weeks, which we have made sure we have stuck to.

I was hoping to hear some positive stories so I could reassure myself that they are on their way out and I needn’t worry.

That's interesting. Former veterinary receptionist - with indorex we always advised to hoover daily for at least a week as the heat and vibrations encouraged the fleas to hatch (& therefore come in contact with the product and be killed more quickly).
May be different advice for pest control products though.

It's not uncommon to notice more about after spraying though - they are dying & moving more slowly so we are more likely to spot them.

OdeToAutumn · 07/04/2022 19:29

I thought that too, but they said it is stronger than anything we can buy ourselves and that it leaves a residue which continues to kill and fleas.

Thank you - trying to tell myself the same about spotting them.

It will I promise. It's a mega pain to get on top of an infestation but you will. Keep up the spot on on the dot. Make a note somewhere that this time next year you'll have to indorex the house.

Every year me and husband clear the edges of the rooms, he Hoover's the skirting boards and I follow on spraying them. You don't need to do everywhere. Just the edges.

You must keep on top of the spot on though. From the vets, not OTC

OdeToAutumn · 07/04/2022 19:41

@gamerchick thank you, that’s a good idea about treating the house each year.

I will not go back to the non-vet stuff. I just had a message back from pest control as I let them know I’ve seen a few and they’ll be back next week to do another respray.

I think I will indorex every day where I’ve seen them until pest control come back.

Sorry to jump on your thread as I don't have any advice but I'm going to follow this in the hope you do receive good advice as I'm currently panicking about fleas. We've all had some bites over the past few days and 2 of my cats keep scratching. I got them Advantage flea treatment today and have ordered 2 cans of Indorex which I'm hoping will be here tomorrow. I haven't seen any fleas so am hoping it's not a bad infestation but from googling earlier I keep reading horror stories about once the fleas are here it's basically impossible to get rid of them Sad. Now seeing this thread I'm worrying more, how frustrating for you to have paid lots of money for professional pest control and still having the problem. Hope you can get on top of it.

Laying traps? For fleas?

ENoeuf · 07/04/2022 19:54

Oh my god. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I found one yesterday months after my very stressed thread about the same thing. Missed a treatment. I don’t pay anyone - maybe I should.

I had fabulous advice on this thread.

AwkwardPaws27 · 07/04/2022 19:59

@PivotPivotPivottt Indorex is a great product. I really recommend reading the instructions carefully and following them - especially the daily hoovering & washing bedding!

When I worked at the vets most failed applications were due to people not reading the instructions Grin

I do my house every year - DH has asthma & it really helps reduce dustmites too - and we use Advantage on the cats & Advocate on the dog. Haven't had any infestations, touch wood!

OdeToAutumn · 07/04/2022 20:09

@alwaysstressed yes - pheromone traps they said. To see if there are any still there and to know where they need to respray. I think this is what they said.

@ENoeuf thanks for the link, will have a look.

I’m spraying indorex and hoovering the areas that weren’t treated but not the areas that were in case it affects the stuff pest control used. They seem confident that they will go and it will be sorted on their next visit.

@AwkwardPaws27 My husband also has asthma so good to know that about dust mites.

@PivotPivotPivottt probably don’t go by my stress levels as I get very anxious and stressed about things. I’m probably overreacting and actually we didn’t act immediately because no one else got bitten and they didn’t initially ‘look’ like flea bites.

Thanks for the advice! The one thing that's worrying me I'm unable to move heavy furniture on my own so I feel like I'm going to be missing places and will just be wasting my time. I also have a lot of clutter and toys in the house thats going to make it difficult Sad. I feel really overwhelmed tbh. A couple of years ago I seen a couple of fleas on one of my cats and I treated them straight away and used indorex then (navigating my way around the heavy furniture and clutter 🙄) and I never seen another one again. I'm hoping we don't actually have any fleas this time round. I would have preferred to buy flea bombs but nothing seems to come recommended as highly as indorex. On a side note I phoned the vet today to see if they had any in stock £26.99 a tin Shock. I went online and order from a website 2 for £19 plus £5 next day delivery.

PivotPivotPivottt · 07/04/2022 20:13

@OdeToAutumn if I'm honest I've been in denial and telling myself it can't be fleas as I don't see any and I haven't been bitten for days but my daughter is waking up with new bites every daySad. So I had to face up to it today and admit to myself it likely is fleas.

ENoeuf · 07/04/2022 20:20

Indorex hasn’t worked for us. Advantage has but it’s an uphill battle now they’ve arrived.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 07/04/2022 20:54

I had this and Tbf I only spotted a couple but I immediately treated the cat, sprayed informed everywhere then went out for the day. Hoovered, hoovered again and they were gone.
