To not test for covid if you feel unwell?

ValerieCupcake · 07/04/2022 15:14

Well, more like are THEY being unreasonable.

Discussion at work today about covid. Couple of colleagues said they won't test if they get say a sore throat or cold symptoms as we have to live with it. They will just get on with things. Get on with things means going out, going to work etc if they are able to. Even without a test.

Would you test? I would. Am I unreasonable? Or are they?

No I won’t be testing any more if any of us get ill.

GeneLovesJezebel · 07/04/2022 16:11

I’ve got tests due to my work so we will test, but if I had to buy them I wouldn’t.

millymolls · 07/04/2022 16:11

I’m not going to test every time I get anything wrong with me. The list of symptoms covers everything
If I’m I’ll I’ll stay home. If not I’ll go out and about

DontLookBackInAnger1 · 07/04/2022 16:16

I had a sore throat and snotty nose recently. I didn't test. I went to work and carried on my usual business. No one around me became unwell. I didn't have to dump my work on a colleague. My clients didn't feel the effects of any absence.

Why would someone isolate now? Omicron isn't something for the average person to fear. Not getting treatment or essential services, because everyone is isolating (while mostly feeling nothing or cold like symptoms) is.

We need to realise that the workforce is needed and stop all this hysteria. It's ridiculous.

Musicaltheatremum · 07/04/2022 16:21

@passport123 or the ones that say "it's definitely not covid" with a cough and a temperature!!!! It might not be but equally it could be.

I think I caught covid from a patient or maybe multiple patients in one day who had it.

Puddington · 07/04/2022 16:22

The company I work for sent out an email earlier this week to say they will no longer be paying "day 1" sick pay for Covid absences, and additionally that any Covid absences will count towards a "trigger" for disciplinaries. So I think testing will largely stop altogether there.

jupitermars1345 · 07/04/2022 16:24

I won't be buying tests
Will stay at home if I'm to unwell
If I'm mildly snotty I'll get on with it but try to avoid busy and indoor places unless necessary

Jalepenojello · 07/04/2022 16:30

For cold symptoms, probably not. I’ve had cold symptoms for a couple of days however started with chest pain today so I did test.

I doubt people can afford to test for every cold, especially in a houseful.

LeftFootForward · 07/04/2022 16:31

I've got skin in the game so to speak as I've just tested positive after about 5 days of feeling on and off like I was fighting off a cold and occasional waves of nausea. I didn't test until yesterday after I starting to feel really really achy (which curiously enough seems to be going now) and I came up positive immediately.

Up until the achiness yesterday I just didn't feel that unwell to justify a (test in my mind). I felt a bit more tired than usual but nothing to stop me doing everything I usually do inc. going on a long hike, working, gardening, cooking etc etc

The reasons I didn't test is that we've recently had 2 people in our house with a cold who both had negative tests and to be honest I assumed that I would feel much worse if I caught covid. How wrong I was !!!

Chely · 07/04/2022 16:32

Nope

ArcheryAnnie · 07/04/2022 16:36

I'm currently off work, again, in a lot of pain, after not really recovering from catching covid for the second time. I don't know if or when I am ever likely to get better. I don't know if this is the end of my working life. I have assumed that both times the person who infected me did so by accident. If I thought that the people who infected me did so because they really didn't give a shit, then I would feel entitled to call them immoral and dangerous

BogRollBOGOF · 07/04/2022 16:37

It's hayfever season. Not testing daily until mid-August!

Maybe for actual illness as a guide for recovery, but at that level I'd be adjusting what I'd be doing anyway.

Bonkerz · 07/04/2022 16:44

As a single self employed mum I won't be testing any more.

My DD is starting GCSEs after Easter and school have insisted she's in unless dying!

If I don't work I can't pay my bills so currently I have a chest/throat and ear infection and on anti biotics and still working despite a horrid cough and uncontrollable temp. (GP checked it's not covid )

IcedOatLatte · 07/04/2022 16:45

I don't understand how you want us to vote at all but I won't be routinely testing and from talking to colleagues at work neither will they. We need to get on with things and stay off when we are too sick to work but tickley throats, coughs and sneezes, no, I'll carry on as I did pre covid

ReadyToMoveIt · 07/04/2022 16:47

I still have some tests left so will use them. Once they run out then I’ll no longer be testing. I don’t have any slack in my budget.
If I am too unwell to go out then I’ll stay at home.

ImplementingTheDennisSystem · 07/04/2022 16:50

I've not taken one test the entire way through. I've had my jabs, worn masks when legally required etc, but not tested.

GreenWheat · 07/04/2022 16:50

The list of symptoms now covers basically every minor ailment in existence. I will not be testing.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 07/04/2022 16:54

I'm not testing any more because a) I don't want to lose wages and b) I'm not paying for tests. I do not give a fig what anyone thinks. If I'm too ill to be at work, I won't go in, but if I'm well enough to be there, I will be.

Aimee1987 · 07/04/2022 16:57

Form the latest ons results only 1 in 8 people who currently have covid are aware of the fact that they have it so honestly that 1 in 8 self isolating makes no difference.
I currently have it and tested with some left over tests. I can work from home so will, if my partner who is a manager in a high street bank gets it he will continue to work. Their policy is the goverment policy so work from home if you can ( he cant) and if he doesnt go in next week branch closes.
You cant blame individuals the goverment have abandoned any precautions so those at risk need to be pissed of at them. I say that as someone who is pregnant and terrified of getting it again later in my pregnancy

budgiegirl · 07/04/2022 17:04

This is the government advice we are now being given, so they are not unreasonable. Free testing has finished, we are being told only to stay at home if you have a high temperature or feel too unwell to work.

I've still got a few free tests, so will use those up when I go to see my elderly mum, and will probably buy some after so I can continue to do this. Other than that, I probably won't bother unless I feel very ill.

CakeAmbushAlert · 07/04/2022 17:05

Family of five here - no I won't be buying any more tests. If anyone feels too unwell in our household they won't be going to work or school for that day/s but otherwise we will go about our lives as usual.

Not even as worried about testing before seeing elderly relatives (who are otherwise in good enough health), as they have all had Covid & been fine & they are treble if not quadruple jabbed.

Dotdotdotdashdashdashdotdotdot · 07/04/2022 17:06

@LibrariesGiveUsPower

Which way should we vote?

I’ll only test now if I have clear cut symptoms or about to visit very vulnerable people.

@LibrariesGiveUsPower there are now 12 symptoms, it’s not clear cut at all. Do the 9 additional symptoms change when you will test?

Covid: Nine new symptoms added to official list www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-60982070

To not test for covid if you feel unwell?
Widmerpool · 07/04/2022 17:06

I tested positive yesterday and I’m currently in bed feeling crappy.

But, I only tested because I had some free tests left. I wouldn’t buy any more.

CakeAmbushAlert · 07/04/2022 17:09

Just to note I was very cautious on other peoples behalf pre-vaccination roll out. Different ballgame these days.

DH is currently juggling people off from work who have tested positive so aren't in but who aren't unwell. Two years of lots of Covid absences has been a major headache (alongside normal illness leave etc)

Overthebow · 07/04/2022 17:10

It would still be by accident as people won’t know they have it as they won’t be testing. No one is purposely going to give you covid. Its not for others to protect you from getting it, it’s on you to protect yourself if you want to, which means avoid other people.
