Working with Public Knowing Covid +

Someone I know has tested positive for Covid, feeling flu like symptoms but still attending work, in others (mostly strangers) homes. (Not sharing that they have tested positive).

This person is a boss and has told employees the work is going ahead, and as they are self employed they won’t be paid anyway, unless they attend work, but staff don’t want to catch Covid or put others at risk. (1 is in vulnerable group)

BTW this person has no money woes whatsoever, quite the opposite in fact.

I feel it’s wrong to do this, at very least share the positive result and ask others if they are happy for you to work in their home or have we just to get on with it now?

So would you be happy for this person to work in your home with covid? Or am I being unreasonable?

I wouldnt be happy

But the government guidance is you no longer have to isolate
Unless it is care service to vulnerable people

Well this is what living with Covid means. The person is perfectly entitled to go about their business but it would be polite and considerate to mention if they have Covid or any other illness as they do not know the circumstances of the person they are visiting. They may be awaiting hospital treatment, be CV themselves or have relatives that are CV. Personally I would be furious not because I fear the virus itself but because it would cause disruption to my life and work.

I think it depends on the nature of the work- if it was an electrician/ plumber type of job and we could stay out of their way then I probably wouldn’t be too bothered- I presume if they’re still able to work then they only have mild symptoms. If it was a health professional who would be in close contact with people, I wouldn’t be too happy. I’d wear a face mask if I knew I was infectious personally, I know it’s not required though.

I do think its important to be given a choice because some people will be working hard to avoid a positive result, my inlaws are waiting on an operation where it would be cancelled if he was positive, my Dm is visiting a very sick relative in hospital which wouldn't be allowed if she was positive, and I've got friends imminently about to jet off on holidays needing pcrs

I think if you are going into people's homes then you should allow them the information to make the decision of if it matters to them

Yes, my thoughts were at the very least ask the customer.

We are in Scotland and I can’t see that anything has changed other than being able to test on day 6 and 7 and come out of isolation early.

I be happy for them to come if I knew so could distance open windows. I'm a health care professional and not allowed in work for ten days still if I catch it. On full pay but I hate cancelling all my patients so frustrating

Chely · 07/04/2022 10:21

I wouldn't care

I wouldn't be happy but this has been happening all through the pandemic, compliance to self-isolation was never anywhere near 100% and lots of people never even tested so would have been out and about and going to work.
