If you got a job but no contract materialised, what would you do?

Sorry feeling frazzled so not sure I'm using quite the right terminology - it's not a salaried position right now. It's more like a freelance project based position that will hopefully become a proper salaried position in about 6 months time. That was the agreed situation.

The problem is I have no temp contract or written agreement or anything now after several weeks. I have mentioned this twice. I'm taking part in meetings and being brought up to speed with all the things I need to be doing but part of me is hesitant because I don't even know what the situation is about pay?

I have very low confidence and very thankful to be hired at all in any capacity but also feel I need to be more assertive as surely I should at least know when any money will materialise?

Like I say I've already brought it up - but is this wrong in itself? Am I showing a poor attitude by doing this, should I just be committing 100%?

Colleague asked today to explain why I'm not working full time Confused and I mean, they absolutely were clear they didn't want a full timer at this point, plus also I haven't been paid for any of my time so far? There's no mention if it - it's occurring to me as I write this that perhaps they just want to pay after this one particular project is completed but I wish they'd made that clear if so?

How would you handle this?

You must have agreed some terms at the original meeting - amount of pay, etc

Are you employed or self employed?

How long have you been there?

If self employed have you invoices them?

It's been a few weeks, so no not invoiced them. I'm not in UK but when I lived in UK I did freelance and would invoice monthly. So it's not been a month.

Yes we did agree pay and hours at interview. Colleague who asked me why I wasn't working full time was actually at the interview - so I felt on the back foot with this question.

Only thing you can do is to say you can't dedicate time to this project until you receive a written contract. I wouldn't have started working under these circumstances. We work with a lot of freelancers, until both parts sign the contract they don't set foot on our premises.

None of this makes any sense - you need to know they're going to pay you. I'd get something in writing to them ASAP - remind them what was agreed and when, and tell them when you will invoice them. Ask them to confirm that they're happy with this.

The pay side of things is easily fixed by asking if they have a monthly deadline for freelancer invoices and when their pay run is. You can use the same conversation to ask if they'll need you to sign a contract before invoicing, if you feel it needs a gentle approach.
