Misogyny?

What do you think of this.......?
Called out the local police a few times to deal with the 12 year long harassment from my neighbours from hell. Nothing was done, nothing improved. Requested a SAR and got the files and was shocked and angry to discover one of the officers had described me as menopausal ( I'm nearly 70! ) and then went on to state he'd contacted the local mental health services to see if I was known to them. Now I'm pretty sure they have to get a court order to look at medical records, in any case I've never had any mental health problems.
Complained to the force's Professional Standards Dept; no effect other than an Inspector stating the officer had recorded opinion and not facts but was not misogynistic, upped it to the IOPC who, of course agreed with the force as per Operation Yew Tree and a thousand other complaints.
Have I a case for sexual discrimination?
In the end I had to get a solicitor to send a Cease and Desist letter to those barbarians next door for some peace and quiet.

Sounds like a pc trying to make up excuses not to do his job. ( call it something else, get someone else involved, hey not my problem any more)
Not sure you’ll get any further complaining to the police.
Have the neighbours improved since your solicitor’s intervention?

The menopause comment was inappropriate, but the mental health services checks, while uncomfortable to read, could have been legitimate. The police can do welfare checks if they're concerned about someone - is it possible that you might have contacted them while very stressed or upset by the neighbours, and they've wondered whether you were ok? I'm not sure this is sex discrimination though, unless they refused to help you at all because of your sex.

Could it be that he was just writing what the neighbour said and they stated to him that you were menopausal, so he was oy repeating?

Somanysocks · 06/04/2022 12:49

Commenting on whether someone is menopausal or not is only relevant in a medical setting.

We all know the police are misogynists.

Yep, sounds like a misogynistic dickhead to me. I’m way past finding excuses for the police and their appalling treatment of women.

EmpressCixi · 06/04/2022 13:40

I don’t think you have a case for sex discrimination. You have to show that if you were a man, the police would have treated the situation differently. When it comes to neighbour complaints, the police usually don’t give a shit unless property is damaged or anyone is physically injured.

Yes, it's misogynistic of him to write that you're menopausal, it's dismissive and belittling, but I'm not sure if you'd get anywhere attempting to go down the sex discrimination route.

He might just as well as called you a 'Karen'; both terms used to shut down older or middle aged women.
