to presume that before dp burnt the faux antique hat stand he would have found an alternative storage area for the hats and coats thereon?

he burnt it?

wow that was a statement

fryalot · 08/01/2008 09:45

well, we do have an open fire, so he was just using it as fuel rather than being cross with it. But even so....

Unreasonable - no; unsurprised - yes! My DH is constantly asking whether that / those couldn't go "somewhere else", without thought or suggestion as to where this mythical somewhere else is!

Cappuccino · 08/01/2008 09:46

I would start treating the furniture with something that gives off dangerous fumes

is nothing safe?

fryalot · 08/01/2008 09:46

ooh, now there's an idea. He has his eye on the kitchen chairs next

(it's not as if we can't afford coal, btw )

Snort @ "faux antique"!

Was it one of those hat stands from MFI that screw apart into 3 pieces?

fryalot · 08/01/2008 09:52

probably - twas a christmas present from a previous inlaw (so probably very very cheap)

tis not particularly the burning of said furniture, more the dumping of coats on the floor for me to pick up.

again

Glad you told us you can afford the coal, was feeling very sorry for you for a sec there!!

Why is he choosing to burn your furniture?

fryalot · 08/01/2008 09:55

well, he's got it into his head that we have too much stuff in the house (we do) and he thinks that I am never going to take it to the charity shop like I promised (I probably won't) so the best way of dealing with it is to put it on the fire (he may be right)

Tis awful when he decides to have a clearout - he was making noises about me taking the kids to Butlins for a week while he hires a skip (I may have no possessions left at all if I do)

OP posts:
Squirtle · 08/01/2008 12:24

can't you just put all the coats on the fire as well?

fryalot · 08/01/2008 13:12

don't let him hear you saying that!

He thinks we all have too many coats (we do) and threatens to throw them away on a regular basis.

Tis not my fault, SIL keeps buying dd2 coats, but they are all SOOOOOOOO nice and anyway, he has five of the buggers himself.

Mr Inferior chucked out the kitchen stool. It was annoying him, cluttering the place up. And it was his.

But it means I can't reach anything.

fryalot · 08/01/2008 13:15

MI - you should ring him up at regular intervals and say "you need to come home from work immediately, as I need the grater/basil/pan (delete as appropriate) and I can't reach it as you threw my stool away"

wait ten minutes, then ring him again.

If you can keep this up for a couple of days, he will buy you a new stool.

probably
